yeah most mantis online sell for around 50 bucks and after you tack on shipping it's like 90 bucks! I paid 65 for mine, and i still can't believe i PAID for one period! a couple of years ago, most ppl threw them away!

I dont think I would pay for a mantis at all... had they charged to begin with I might, but my LFS has never charged me and they often have them. They have one now they put a $10 price tag on but if I agreed to take it theyd give it to me.

I paid $35 for my platy and $20 for my new guy - no way would I pay more than $40 for any mantis.

Hi All,

Sorry you feel the pricing is a little steep. You should see what we were invoiced for him. ;). There is no game here just straight mark up.

I must say we have gotten alot of M. shrimp in - in the years. Nothing draws a match close to this guy. It is the biggest and by far the most colorful we have ever seen. The picture definitely doesn't show it.

Even with the two mantis currently in stock in the store no one even bothers looking at the other one (who is also impressive) this guy is just amazing.

Not a sales pitch at all. We understand your view. Its okay if we don't sell them. It draws quite a crowd and our workers are attached to him ;)

Take Care
Happy Holidays

yeah, that was in your description, but you're right the photo doesn't do him much justice! maybe you should put a ruler with him or something.

thanks for clearing that up!

I stopped by Sharkysreef while that mantis was there and I must say it was absolutely huge. Of all the stuff they had in stock I had to walk past that mantis tank about 4 times just to get another look. I had my kids with me and they sat and looked at him nearly the whole time we were there, for that reason alone he will be missed. lol

I've been to Sharky's too and that son of a gun is impressive. Maybe if I get a spare tank I may have to get into them. I won a GC at their open house that would cover the cost but I think I'll stick to Zoos, etc............ for now.:eek1:

a mantis that large will need at the very least a 40G breeder tank to be happy, plus im not sure how much longer they live once they get as large as it seems everyone makes it sound so it might not have that much longer of a life to live
