Reason I'm asking, I just got my tank up and running a few days ago and have just started to get a diatom outbreak, and need a phosphate test kit, as all I have now is Ammonia, Nitrate, Nitrite, Alkalinity, and pH.

I'm willing to spend the money if it's really worth it.

salifert phosphate kit is worth it. If you just set this tank up, you're gonna get a diatom outbreak no matter what. Unless you are using tap water with phosphate in it, or have some LR with phosphate in it, you shouldn't have any PO4 in your water for a while...

Just thought it would be a wise investment for the future.

What I would do is see if there is a local reefer that has one you could borrow for a test. You won't need one for a little while and these tests expire, so you'd be better off getting one down the road (maybe after about 6 months), IMO.
