What is the fastest way to bring down alk?
I recently bought the Hana alk. I've recently increase alk dose to bring it up to 9 for the past month. The Hana alk reading was constantly around 9. However I gradually lost my corals. First the chalice, sps then now my favorite kryptonite frogspawn. I was suspected that alk was the culprit so I test alk using salifert test kit and my reading is 14. I'll definitely do water change to bring the alk down. Is there any other ways to bring alk down beside water change? Hana testings kits killed me and I don't want to use it again. Please help!!!!!!thanks

My hanna alk kit is spot on with readings from red sea pro and my elos kit. Did you get the right kit? There is a saltwater reagent and freshwater one.

Bringing it down fast will probably do more harm. Just don't dose for a few days and let it come down slowly on its own. API alk test works just fine.

Thanks. I will stop dosing for a couple days and continue to test. I think I have the right reagent because it came w the kit

I mean did you buy the right alk kit? I accidently bought the other alkalinity reagent once and got some messed up readings

I'll check soon

Just tested my hanna and elos kit 9.75 on hanna , 10 drops on elos pretty close

I'm not a big fun of Hanna after their Calcium checker get released but Alkalinity one was(is) pretty good. I would double check the type of reagent and expiration date. For me checker was always close to my other test kits and consistent enough so I can relay on it. Don't do anything special to bring your alk down. I would try third test kit to be sure about it level and if it's indeed high just stop dosing it. You can still do your regular WC. Bringing alk DOWN quick is really bad for SPS.

Thanks all. I already stop dosing. I checked the reagent and it's the right one
