My new tank

I just picked up a Oceanic Ultimate 156 w/starfire front. Also picked up a matching cherry mohagany stand with it for $1200. I have to build a canopy since i dont care for the ones that go with the furnature sets. I think im gonna make it 29" tall and have a shelf on the inside. I got a 40 gal breeder tank that im going to use for the sump. For now I think im going to use most of the rest of the hardware from my 110, and upgrade as i go along. Its gonna be kinda tricky because its going to go in the same spot as my 110 so im gonna have to do a break down and reset up the same day. I figure its going to be several weeks for me to build a canopy and to baffle the sump. If anyone has a stock tank I could barrow I would be very grateful.

I left the tank at Exotic for now so ill take some pictures as soon as I can.

Here is Oceanic's Picture of my tank. Ill have more pictures to come but wanted to put a starting picture in the thread. I dont know why but in Oceanic's pictures the duel overflows don't show up. Also they have that light hood on top which wont be on my tank. The picture also shows my stand.

Sweet David!

Are the overflows at the corners? What are the dimensions? (I'm not familiar with 156g.)

P.Kelly 10/05/2008 10:50 AM

5'x24"x29" right? Same as a 210/215 but a foot narrower across the front.

By the way, David, you're a punk!

;)

What??? I didnt do it! Kevin did! lol

The overflows are just like the 210 off center but not in the corners. The dimensions are 60"Lx 24"Wx 25"T.

kevin95695 10/05/2008 11:07 AM

Nice dims! I'm loving our 5x2x2.

P.Kelly 10/05/2008 11:09 AM

My bad, it is the 178 that is 5'x2'x29"

Auntbeez 10/05/2008 12:46 PM

But before I set it in place I pulled out the sump so I can work on it. Going to get the glass cut tomarrow for the baffles.

kevin95695 10/05/2008 09:44 PM

bluenassarius 10/06/2008 06:39 PM

nice tank :)

D&KSac 10/06/2008 06:42 PM

Thanks. I just ordered the glass pieces for the baffles in the sump today should be done ready for pick up on wednesday. I still need to track down some all-glass silicone in the caulking gun sized tube if anyone knows anyplace to find it locally.

I had an eye on that tank for about 2 weeks .....dang.
You nailed it! I might have to settle with the 215 Oceanic Ultimate they have left.
I better go get it before its gone.
Would you please show some pictures of the pieces that you get for the sump? I am going to get the same setup.
Nice tank BTW.

P.Kelly 10/07/2008 07:22 AM

Are you going to drill the return section then for the return pump input? 3" isn't a lot of space and you'll be topping off like crazy as your tank evaps 2-3 gallons a day.

D&KSac 10/07/2008 10:33 AM

Yes im going to have the sump drilled for a 2" bulkhead for my return pump. I know 3" isnt a whole lot of space but that is the minimum i need for a 2" 90. As for the evaporation thats what the ATO is for and if I can convince K to let me move my tank from its current location to the wall next to the sliding glass door im going to tie in my RODI directly to my ATO.

reefqu33n 10/07/2008 10:53 AM

great choice of tank! very nice
$1200??? how did you get it so cheap??

D&KSac 10/07/2008 10:56 AM

Exotic is having a closeout on alot of there bigger tanks most of the ones they had on sale are sold but i think theres a 210 and another one at an awesome price.

D&KSac 10/07/2008 05:27 PM

Even being a bit under the weather I still managed to get out and get something done. Went over to Steves and had the sump drilled. Thanks again bud.

Picking up the baffles tomarrow then its time to lay out the sump. Unfortunatly I dont pick up the silicone till Friday.

rafael13 10/07/2008 05:33 PM

exotic sells that silicone, they keep it under the counter
