New tank syndrome -- Cyano?
 

Is cyano normal in a tank that is just getting started? Tank is cycled, has lights, snails, crabs, pods, and has been that way for about 2 weeks. I've got some diatom action, some other algae going in the main tank, but nothing bad and the Trochus are mowing through it.

But I've got a patch of cyano in my fuge (under a "Melev fuge light", for the chaeto). Should I work on flow, reducing light cycle, and other normal routes for eliminating cyano, or is this something that should balance out as the tank balances (i.e., like diatoms)?

How long has the tank beenup and running? As the tank matures, it will go through several stages of algae blooms. Cyano is more of a bacteria. I think some people say that most new tanks will get some of this. However, let me warn you. If you do not take steps to get the cyano under control, it has the potential to take over your entire tank. It spreads very aggressively and quicky. Are you sure that it is cyano? What is the flow like in your tank? Cyano likes to takeover in places with low flow.
