Cutting Sarcophyton to move it.

Hi,

If i cut my Sarcophyton at the base of the rock and stick it on another rock will it harm him? and how can i stick it to another rock? it's kinda big around 3 inch or little bit more high. Should i use fish net??

Most leathers are very tough and will recover from being cut and moved. Superglue, superglue then epoxy and rubber bands (and even toothpicks or skewers and rubber bands) are common ways of securing leathers to a new place. It's ok to touch it a bit- no need for a fish net. Like many soft corals, it will be ok out of the water for a few minutes while you secure it to a new home.

You can even split it directly down the middle. Also, you can take scissors and cut around the "cap" and place all the pieces in a container. Place that with some rock rubble in a low flow area and in a week or so you should have frags.

If you just want to move it without risking fragging or damaging it, you can take the rockwork it is in out. Take a chisel and a flat head screw driver and break off the rock below the base. Make sure you chisel off the rock well below where the base of the leather is and you're not trying to "cut" it off the rock.

Attach the much smaller piece of rock to another rock and you're done.
