Banggai cardinal soon to release babies from its mouth. What To Do??
I haven't had much help from other forums. My banggai cardinal fish is on day 13(?) of having babies in his mouth. Right now all I have done is made fake sea urchin things with zip ties. Should I have a separate tank set up? Should I catch the cardinal fish now? Maybe keep him in a separate breeder net? Do I need special food for the newborn? I don't know what to do... :uhoh2:

There is a user by the name Tennyson who has a thread in this forum about breeding cardinals that I believe you'll find useful.

They are large enough to feed on newly hatched brine shrimp when they are released so are pretty easy to feed.
The problem I had (which is fairly common) is that the male hasn’t eaten for so long that he swallows them (or aborts) right at the last moment, or if you try to move the male to another tank he spits them out. If your tank is fairly low flow the babies might be fine in the make shift urchin, you just need to target feed them several times a day. |
