Acan Placement

I have some acans on the way and I'm wondering where the best place for them is in my tank. I'm running the stock biocube PCs. I have a large hammer about 2/3 up the tank that is doing great, and a small frogspawn frag at the same level that's also doing well.

This will be my first time with acans, so I want to make sure they're happy.

Thanks!

Sand bed. Acans do best and color up better in low light and gentle flow. I keep some of my high end ones under overhangs to protect them from the MH's. Too much light will turn them orange.

there's a big difference between pc and MH lights. You could probably keep them anywhere with pc lights. def not intense light or flow

+1. I try to keep my acans in the shade of my toadstool leather.

Thanks for the info. I've got a couple good spots that should work well.

My first acans arrived yesterday. I noticed this morning before the night lights went on that the larger frag had its feeder tentacles out - good sign! I'll try spot feeding them tonight, and I'll post pics as well.

Place them low and work them towards the upper portion of the tank. See how they react!:)

Acans LOVE food! If you really want them to take off, feed them every day or so!

I've had a single head sprout 12 babies in 1-2 months from feeding them 3 times a week.

agreed, lower light and feed something meaty twice a week

I keep mine in low light areas as well with low flow. They like that best.

What is the best way to go about feeding them? I have tried with my hand and it just doesn't seem to work.

I feed mine mysis in a turkey baster. About a hour after the lights go out the feeders come out and I just gently squirt them.

I feed my acan with shrimps pallets that I crash to small grains. Really aggressive eater. I do that only when I see its tentacles out of course, usually happens to me after I feed the fish.

Any thoughts on how to do this with the lights on? My tank is at work and 90% of the time the lights are on when I leave for the day.

My acans will eat with the lights on. After I thaw out the mysis I spray a little of the shrimp juice over it. It will open up.

Leave the acans on the sandbed until it gets fully acclimated to your lights, then you can start moving it around.

Try to find a flat rock and place yor acan on top of it. Acans grow faster on flat surface, not on sand bed.
