cannot keep red sps coloration

hey guys so, i was going through some photos and i looked at my current tank and all my other sps seem to be getting more and more colors exept for my red sps's

this is my red millie that 3-4 weeks

this is about week ago
http://i584.photobucket.com/albums/s...y/IMG_2155.jpg
also my red millie is starting to turn green!?!

i just purchased a ORA red planet, will take some pictures and wait 3-4 weeks, it all my corals seem to have all good P/E i also run a fuge with cheatos on reverse lightning, i also feed rods food every other day and amino acid every day. i have 2 nemos and 1 wrasse feeding them daily with NLS pellets. so my phosphate shouldnt be that high. i still havent checked it though. maybe i should start my reactor back up.

lightning is AI NANO

I know this too well in my own tank, except it extends itself to pinks, reds, and purples. And it's definitely the lights. I have AI's as well, and they do not hit the red spectrum well. If all other colors are doing well, then it most likely is lights. If you can throw some T5 supplements in there or some red, violet LEDS. I think it will make a large difference. I had a pink Mille under my AI's that was brown. Under my T5 frag tank with ATI blue plus and Fiji purple it was a nice light pink with yellow tips! Lighting can make a huge difference! Just my thought process, someone else will certainly jump in too.

hm its weird because my pink lemonade has its pinkish yellowish color to it, my raindow millie sorta has some pink in it ill just wait it through and see how my RP turns out

I add a little bit of Acid Boric to the sump help the red color grow from sps.
but don't add too much of it, otherwise will hurt. i do it twice a week with 1/10 teaspoon for my 95g
the red acro is growing great!

Id start with lighting too, i lost my reds when going to LED. added some T5 and they are back.

=/ what a waste of money on the ai nano's then! sigh. has anyone tried the acid boric method?

ir_danno22 04/23/2012 09:02 PM

Have you tried turning your lights down?

all my other sps colors are insane so i wouldnt think turning down the lights would do much but browning all my other corals out.

bobssecrtsn 04/23/2012 09:31 PM

also browning out is meaning to little light or high nutrients levels..

many reefers are using acid boric method in my town, they can keep the sps in bright red, beautiful color

there's the pic of one reefer using the method

bobssecrtsn 04/23/2012 10:50 PM

do you know what lighting there using? and what kind of boric acid there using?

i added some chemipure elite with some 2 tsp of gfo, we'll see where this is headed, i turned my reactor back on because im getting some brown algae on the glass and some on the sand. possibly to much nutrients

joe22883 04/23/2012 10:56 PM

Occasionally a lower light acro will brown out under too much light, imo usually pink sps like high light. It could be high nutrients or not enough light, turning green is a sign of this. Also could just be the wrong spectrum to show pinks, some 20k didnt make them pop for me but the sps still had the pink in them. gl

most of the reefers were using diy LED lightings here.
we bought the Acid boric powder from local chemical departmentstore made in Germany. i think you have added too much chempipure on it, lol. too much will get algate and burn the sps

RickMartin 04/24/2012 10:19 AM

Whats the theory behind adding Boric acid?

Concentrates of Borate-based products can be used in marine environments to help prevent slim and algae growth. Boric Acid is also used to help cure skins in tanneries.

what about another acro in your tank (color, crowing) with Acid Boric?

The red planet needs to be at the bottom of your tank. They do not like alot of light. Your milli might need to be at the bottom as well and it should color up

+1. I seemed to have the same issue. Then the red planet fell to the bottom of the tank. Since I am lazy in sticking my hands in my tank, I left it alone for a couple of weeks. It actually colored up. I did not have this issue before I had LEDs.
