Japanese Fiber Optic Aquarium Lighting

Interesting idea by Aqua Sun Marine (ASM) from Japan. You can see the huge LED Fiber optic ends over the aquarium.

Imagine having one of these over your tank which doesnt add heat or increase the electric bill:

Here's another reef tank using this technology:

The Akasaka reservoir tower

The first floor fitness room entrance floor - the tank is installed. Width 2, irradiating "sunflower light" to the tank of 050mm × depth 500mm, it offers the space of relaxation to the inhabitant.

Awesome! I think that's the future of our reef lighting gonna be. Solatubes are getting popular in this hobby also but fiber optic lighthing...amazing. I wonder if it gives decent amount of PAR.

Btw invincible569, thanks for sharing this and your tank is simply splendid...Ive seen your thread somewhere.

Rumored price is $10K and available in the U.S. in 07. Not sure how true that is though. Thats probably only for the product and doesnt include installation. You would most likely have to get someone who knows how to terminate fiber optic cable.

Reefjunkee 10/28/2006 06:41 PM

If You go to the website it will give You the par on them

That is really cool stuff. What can be better than using the Sun itself to light a reef tank. The growth must be awesome and the power consumption is very low. Although the systems are going to be expensive, the power saved on a very large tank might make them a viable option.
