Are dosers worth having? Or just cause more problems?

Looking at the GHL Doser, but concerned about another toy causing more headaches with more tweaking than just hand dosing.

I dose:
Vodka everyday .06ml
CA 10ml, Alk 10ml every other day.
Mag 10ml about one a week.

So I would be looking at a GHL 4 dosing model.

Want to make my reef life maintenance easier, not more complicated.

Worth it??? Thanks

i love my dosing pumps. i have two of the BRS peristaltic ones.

i'm going through a lot more cal and alk than you are though. i wouldn't reasonably be able to keep up hand dosing.

Can a doser fail? Yes its possible..
Is it very common.. No not at all from my experience..
Is it really nice to have it do all the dosing for you? Sure is..

Are dosers worth having? Absolutely..

Yes. I hand dosed for quite a while as well. Dialing in the doser took some time and patience but was WELL worth the effort and $ IMO.

Properly set up dosers make life a lot easier.

Dosers are great and my choice, they themselves do not fail so much as the timers, that's where you need to have some kind of safety, a controller is best.

Anything that automates is worth having to me.
Keeps things way more stable than if I had to rely on myself to do it manually.
Just make sure you spend your money on a high quality one, like GHL. Dosers are not an item to cheap out on.

Thanks a lot guys/gals....:) Now I have to spend money on another toy. Oh darn.

There is NO better standalone doser than the GHL. They make the most reliable and long lasting dosers money can buy.

I bit the bullet and bought an Apex Dos a couple months ago and as soon as I got it my qualms about price went away. It's *so* nice being able to dose precisely. I just use it to dose kalk and it works wonders.

The question I would ask is what's the worst case scenario WHEN it breaks? Having systems over 2 decades old everything breaks and I've learned to appreciate simplicity and redundancy and all my systems will go at least a week outside a total power or AC failure.

I bought the ghl 2.1 about a month ago and love it. Definitely makes daily maintenance a lot easier which was my main goal. I didn’t quite need the doser yet as far as amount of 2 part needed. To me it was for sure worth it and bought the ghl because the only negative review I could find was its price.

Love my ghl doser 2.1
Alk and calc are rock steady every day every week. It also handles my ATO with the optical level senser, so extra bonus there

BTW, if you haven't seen yet.... ;)

GHL 2.1 doser is really nice and runs like a tank. And being able to monitor inputs and make changes online with myghl.com is pretty sweet too. The one area I did have issues with was staying connected with my WIFI; tried a lot of solutions and worked with their help desk; in the end I hard wired it since I had a cable running right by the unit. And they have the ALK monitoring unit comin out soon.....
