My prop system project...

http://img25.imageshack.us/img25/3741/fragroom.jpg

I present my project...I have a big cellar and I shall like putting it the technical part of my tank and two (for begining) frag tank

What do you think???

Bye

Jo

I like it. However I can only add a few upgrades? Why 2 seperate tanks? Why not have one large tank and then another under it? The space between the 2 seperate tanks can added to the overall size. I know that makes the system larger but it'll give you more room for frags and corals and then maybe you can get a single light fixture?

Just food for thought.

I also think you will be better off with one larger tank however it will be easier to get high flow in the smaller tanks.

Bios 10/29/2010 03:38 AM

Hello

I am going to make my system gradually, it is for that reason that I make two tank different(and 03 and 04..), the dimensions are the following ones 40x24x10...

For lighting, i want to take 4x39 watts T5 lighting /frag tank
For the flow i want to take one nanostream 6045 for begining

The frag will be put on eggcrates

Do you think that it is necessary to put sand in frag tank???

Bye..

I like the idea of having seperate tanks for fragging, i just feel it gives you alot more flexability in your sytem ( flow rates, lighting, etc )...

and no, you do not need any sand in your frag tanks, it is aesthetics only if the sand bed is under 4 inches deep... i take it you will have a DSB in your fuge? although, i dont think its necessary in a frag system. if it is some one please correct me.

also i'd recomend to over skim like a mad man to begin with, so when you add on to your stystem you will not need to upgrade your skimmer. an extra 200 dollars now will save you 800 in the long run

just my thoughts, good luck and happy reefing

mrmikeasaurus 10/29/2010 05:52 PM

what skimmer and lighting are you planning on using...

also what do you plan on propagating

RMR RaC3R 10/29/2010 08:26 PM

it would be cool to do one t5 tank and one mh tank and do you could see if one varies for coloration.
bmcaccrylics has a couple of setups that come with premade shelves for the frags

Bios 10/30/2010 04:47 AM

Hello ...

For the test MH / T5, I shall not make it even if the test could be interesting. I already have the ballast for t5 and I haven't possibility of buying other..

For the plan of porpagtaion, I shall like making a first tank with small frags of sps, LPS and soft with frag plug of oceans wonders.

I have counted, in the tank, I can put approximately 700 frag plugs...

The second frag tank will be for more important frags fixed to diy plugs I can put 300 diy frag plug in the tank

it is good...... no???

For the skimmer, I have an ATI bbm 200, my system will contain 200 gal approximately (refugium of 25 gal include)
I think that it is sufficient..??? not?

Bye...

It looks sharp, will allow you to build in sections like you want. My only concern was the drain tubes from the frag tanks. They will have to be sloopped downward so the drain on the left frag tank will need to be higher then the first tank.

You can have seperate drains for each frag tank making plumbing easier. If your intentions are to tie the second frag tank's drain into the first make sure the drain piping is large enough to accomadate the additional drain.

Just my thoughts, good luck.

Thomas

Hi thomas...
It's a very good idea..

I'll seperate drains...i haven't thinking it..

Thank you very much...

:lol2:

Drewbaby 11/02/2010 02:50 PM

I think it's going to turn out great. Is this system going to be stand alone or will it be attached to your display tank?

Bios 11/03/2010 04:49 AM

Hi everybody...

For the moment, i make my frag plug with concret and aragonite sand but what is the best curing system???

thanks you very much...

Jo

(Oh sorry...for the stand, i 'll make one stand by tank...)

sayn3ver 11/04/2010 12:07 PM

i would consider designing around 4ft (54w) t5's. you get more bulb for the same money. The 4ft fixtures/retros seem to be the same price or cheaper as well then the other sizes.

At the same time, going with a square tank will allow the use of 1 MH bulb per tank. (2ftx2ft).

just things to think about. i have no experience doing this, but are things i have considered in my on short time in this hobby.

bdbyace28 11/05/2010 04:47 PM

I would definately go with one big frag tank. I had a pair of frag tanks running in a similar fashion and it took longer when cleaning the 2 rather than just one. On the other hand if you were planning on growing corals with different lighting requirements, you could save money on having 2 seperate light setups.

dahenley 12/04/2010 09:03 AM

hows the progress going?

madean 12/11/2010 10:44 PM

If you are making your own plugs it depends on how many you are making. If you plan to make large amounts at a time like 100s to 1000s then I would go to a place like toys r us and buy a cheep little kiddy pool, might be hard to get at this time of the year, and just fill it up with you plugs and a power head and circulate water in the pool. Change the water, all of it daily or every other day. Or get a rubber maid tub. I have seen some people who make small quantities actual rig a holding bag, like fish net, and place the plugs in their toilet tanks. Evertime the toilet is used the water gets changed in the tank leave them in there for like a month and there you go. Sounds funny but people do it.

Hello everybody...

I present you the evolution of my project.

I stuck the pvc, redo all the electricity, the stand and the lighting for the refugium ...I also have to buy the first frag tank, as well as the pumps...

First frag room...

Looks great! Now fill it with coral!

fragtrader 02/20/2011 09:37 AM

watch the magnets on those 6045 streams....i diced my thumb open yesterday on one trying to separate them for service.

Bios 02/22/2011 05:59 AM

Yes...lol....
i've already broken my old tank with magnets....:hmm4:

Bios 02/23/2011 07:40 AM

Hi,
yesterday I put the water and the salt (reef crystal) with the refugium before the connection in the main tank...
http://img193.imageshack.us/img193/3...m024medium.jpg
This morning, I rinsed 16 kg of aragamax sugar size of carib' sea, then, introduction in the tank....
http://img535.imageshack.us/img535/8...m026medium.jpg
I thought that 16 kg were going to be sufficient, but I think that I would need the double...lol...

When the water will be less shady, I would introduce 5 kg of dead rock and 5 kg of live rock....

Bye...

Are you doing a deep sand bed? If not, that's fine for a refugium.

Jeff

Hi everybody
Ten days after the filling, the refuge is well, the microfauna begins to settle down. (Gamares, snails worms and more)
