Cheap saltwater fish

Out of our sponsors whos the best one to go thru for fish?

zoolover 08/16/2012 07:36 PM

I've gone through live aquaria a few times, nothing but good things to say about them.

Mitchell_2004 08/16/2012 08:20 PM

+1 on Live Aquaria..

curlykid 08/16/2012 08:23 PM

you should not buy your fish based on cheapness, rather on quality. buying fish is not like shopping for toilet paper. that said, live aquaria sells great toilet paper. ;)

All my fish are from DD (liveaquaria) with 100% survival rate. I much rather pay a small premium and receive healthy fish. Corals and inverts i'd look elsewhere for better deals...

benjaminspades 08/16/2012 08:28 PM

I've never gone through live aquaria before. Are there any specific fish that they have a really good price on?

wakesetter 08/16/2012 08:29 PM

do you guys buy from your lfs at all?

I'm strictly online and i live in NYC with plenty of low life LFS around...

rupatel 08/16/2012 08:41 PM

LFS so you can see them 1st and make sure they are eating

chrystyan20011 08/16/2012 09:13 PM

well i would buy from a local fish store but the nearest one is over an hour away. So i wont waste the time driving that far to potentionally come home with nothing plus locals dont guarentee their fish like online ones do

benjaminspades 08/16/2012 09:18 PM

Don't get me wrong. I do go to local fish stores but I prefer to target shop for specific fish. LFS t end to make me impulse buy and when I impulse buy thats where the expensiveness comes in. Because this fish doesn't work well with that fish and this little fish gets eaten by this other big fish ect..ect... Online fish shopping, aside from the shipping, provides me with info and everything you could possibly need to keep the inhabitant alive. I guess its more of a convenience for me

I have my LFS order fish for me since they usually only have common stock. That way I cut out the shipping cost, and mine will call me for pick up before they add it to their system.

Spyderturbo007 08/17/2012 06:33 AM

When you guys/gals order fish online, how do you deal with delivery if you're like me and work 8am-5pm? I just can't see burning a days vacation every time I buy a fish.

DD is great, but certainly not necessary , nor guaranteed for 100% survival rate. Not far from you, in Yonkers is Maximum Reefs, and their pricing is a fraction of DD...and every thing in the store is WYSIWYG!

curlykid 08/17/2012 07:16 AM

spyderturbo, they will ship it to your work address.

zoolover 08/17/2012 07:19 AM

+1 to work address, if it's possible. That's where I have mine shipped, just because I know I'll be there. Takes the stress away of trying to make sure you're home when the shipment arrives.

wakesetter 08/17/2012 08:04 AM

Wow, DD always seems super expensive to me, but I am guessing that California LFS tend to run cheaper than the rest of the country. On average the fish on Liveaquaria are 20% more than my lfs. Some are double the price. And my LFS is fair with guarantees, usually on a case by case basis. They don't always carry the most expensive stuff, will probably never see a Dr. Seuss fish there, but they can get me most of the things that I ask for and get a variety of different things in regularly.

But once it's here, what do I do with the poor little guy?

anbosu 08/17/2012 08:27 AM

You could run home at lunch and get it acclimated.

nasoisking 08/17/2012 10:14 PM

idk, im a big fan of wysiwyg

DCBB 08/17/2012 10:35 PM
