Dr. Tim's one stop cycle stuff?
 

Anyone ever use this stuff? Watched a bunch of videos that swear can completely cycle a new tank in less than a week. Any testimonies here?

Try being the operative word here, the stuff didn’t work as advertised. I followed the directions to a T and it still took about 4 weeks for my tank to fully cycle

IMHO it’s just like every other snake oil out there. If I were to do it again I’d just set up the tank with sand and live rock dose pure ammonia to 2ppm and let it sit until it cycles

Worked for me in my latest build.

Took about a week. I did a few water changes during that time to make sure Ammonia and nitrites never went above recommended levels.

Just checked my log, I filled the tank on 09/22/17 with dry rock, added CUC by 10/06/17, first coral went in 10/17/17

I've tried it before for my tank. Did a pretty good job for what I needed it to do.

I prefer Microbe Lift Special Blend. Same general idea, but I have had better, more consistent results with Microbe Lift

I had 25lbs of live rock and used MB7 to help the cycle. It took me only a week. I used the frozen shrimp method and never took it out lol.

It is recommended to keep ammonia no higher than 2ppm and to keep nitrites below 5ppm. Higher levels will prolong the cycle and could stall it.

I did water changes to keep levels in check during the initial cycle using Dr. Tim's.

Most of the bottled bacteria starters I've tried work just fine. I use them often to setup the final stage of quarantine.

The one issue ive found longer term, especially with dr Tim's is strange and severe bacterial blooms that seemingly come oit of nowhere. I recommend at some point in the next couple of months getting a couple different types of denitrifying bacteria products and dosing the tank with the recommended maintenance dose. Something like seachem stability or one of the prodibio products. My theory is Dr Tim's is prone to a problematic monoculture, or is susceptible to being over run by certain types of heterotrophic bacteria.

It just takes time.

I agree that ammonia over 2ppm can be problematic. Water changes work great for lowering everything that needs lowered.

i used it, didn't work.

tried about half a dozen probiotics, augmented with additions of live rock and sand during my new build. still took several weeks to cycle.

don't believe the hype.

I think this is a futile situation because the circumstances of everyone's tank is different for initial setup and cycle. I cycled my 9g with half very mature rock and the other half with just bacteria LR, and I cycled in roughly 5 days. Never used this stuff or anything else to speed the cycle.

I guess my point is that if I HAD used this stuff, I would have heralded it as a success story, even though my quick cycle was due to low volume and mature rock.

I used 100% dry pukani rock and was ready for CUC within a week. It definitely worked for me, and I've cycled quite a few tanks the old fashioned way.

Thanks yeah it was a long shot but been 4 days and starting to see diatoms forming and ammonia and nitrite falling.

Could be the start of diatoms, it took about a week after the cycle for the diatoms to start in mine. They were short lived, then came the green hair algae which is dying off now.
