Our 375g reef tank build & fish room

Well we are going to combine our 2 big tanks into one HUGH one.
I was able to convinced my husband to go REEF
since I do the maintenance on both tanks, I think he felt sorry for me!
not only are we upgrading our tank, we will be building a fish room too!

so we have a lot of planning ahead of us.

The new tank will be 96x36x24 glass
bare bottom, CLS (jury is still out on the CLS)

the fish room will be 16'x8'

here are some pictures of our tanks now and the side of the house where we will be building a fish room.
all this STUFF will finally be out of the way.

the TV will be removed. A door will be built there so we can access the room from here.

my tank 120g Reef:

so that's a start, so far we are getting 3 bids from GC's for the room. and bids on the tank & sump.

This is going to be a nice upgrade and it's not only because you're the one that placed the thread, but I like your tank better. So much more vibrant and colorful. Great job and can't wait to see the pics of the new tank when built.

Thanks!
We have a long way to go! But we will be enjoying every minute of it!

Congrat's on your build thread Sandy.... love the space you have for your tank and love your dimension on your new tank...this is going to be a great build.... :)

Bax 06/02/2008 08:23 PM

Sounds like a great project! Good luck!

saltyfishy123 06/02/2008 08:53 PM

Tagging along, cant wait to see this!

OH, and good luck!

edandsandy 06/05/2008 06:48 AM

Thanks everyone,
We have not gotten a bid on the room yet (yikes)
and I am still waiting on the the tank bid as well on and lets not forget the bid on the sump!
the suspense is agonizing!

Ed Reef 06/05/2008 06:52 AM

That's fine as you can start planning the details first anyway :)

Shekki 06/05/2008 09:03 AM

You're a brave man having fish tanks and pool balls in the same room!

edandsandy 06/05/2008 10:57 AM

your right about the pool table, only 1 time was somebody stupid enough to try and break towards the tanks, I ran in there just like a mom and yelled at everyone in the party! then put away the sticks & balls!
keep in mind everyone is over 30! you would have thought they would know better!

Don't you know! Every one over 30 needs someone to keep them in check at a party. Especially, when glass, sticks and balls are involved!

edandsandy 06/06/2008 09:37 AM

I do now!

edandsandy 06/06/2008 02:57 PM

We are thinking about buying these:
Tunze Turbelle Stream Kit TS48 - Four Stream 6101 + 7095 MultiController
instead on a CLS what do you think.

this is the other controller I was thinking about:
Digital Aquatics ReefKeeper 2 Controller.
Will this controller work with the Tunze or will I need both?

Ratpack 06/06/2008 06:52 PM

Oh, I can't wait to see this tank come to be.

Ed Reef 06/06/2008 09:26 PM

Sandy, you can also consider 2 x 6101 + 1 wavebox :)

edandsandy 06/07/2008 06:21 AM

Oooo, Ed what a great idea!
Do you think the Aquatics ReefKeeper 2 Controller will handle the wave box?
these are the protein skimmer's we are thinking about now.
Deltec External Protein Skimmer AP702 or the
ASM G Series Protein Skimmers (G-5)

I'm also looking at these:
Ecotech Marine VorTech Propeller Pumps with Wave Driver (2xMP40W Units) + Battery Backup (1xUnit)
I like that the electrical is outside the tank...
something about water & electricity, hmmmm.............

Poor Ed got a shock the other day when we noticed that 1 of the power heads quit working, I thought I was going to have to kick him!

edandsandy 06/08/2008 07:01 AM

I have some designs of the tank and fish room in word '07, that I would like to share. How do I post the drawing here?

edandsandy 06/08/2008 07:17 AM

Still researching controllers, what do you think about this one?

GHL Profilux Plus II EX Professional Elite

Ed Reef 06/08/2008 07:21 AM

Profilux will handle your Stream... u can used it instead of the controller from Tunze plus many other features!!

edandsandy 06/08/2008 08:21 AM

Thanks Ed, this unit has alot to offer!

Ed Reef 06/08/2008 08:41 AM

Especially since y're thinking of going the LED direction, it can control AI as well and simulate storms, lighting, etc

Pretty cool... :)

RGibson 06/08/2008 08:58 AM

you need to get the new tunze round stream 6100 ,that will give you better water control.

edandsandy 06/08/2008 08:19 PM

OK, I'm thinking about this skimmer now:
Deltec External Protein Skimmer AP701
I really need to order this soon, my skinner now is soooooooooo bad that I need to replace it in the morning. what do you think?

Ed Reef 06/08/2008 08:41 PM

Sandy - AP701 could be a little under for the tank your size. If space allowed, get the AP902 or if space is an issue, at least the AP702. Just my 2cent :)

edandsandy 06/09/2008 09:04 AM

Ed, right now it has to be external. But I do need to think about the future!

will do more research
Thanks!
