Unhappy clam
 

I have gotten a new clam and it will not stay put. I have tried numerous spots on my rockwork, and even on the sandbed. It usually jumps off and ends up laying sideways on the sand. It looks healthy and is full of color. It is a Crocea.

Any ideas?

It can take them awhile to anchor. Try placing it where it can't tumble. Put some rocks around it or something. Eventually it should. Are your parameters within proper ranges? And croceas like a lot of light, so if you are running t5's, place it higher up in the tank.

They like flat surfaces, IME. Try placing him maybe on your sand, or on a flat rock surface.

If I do chose to try out the sand, do they need to anchor? My sand bed is about 3.5"?

Try getting a large empty clam half shell, then place this or a small flat piece of rock under your sand, and place the clam on top of the sand.
His foot will find the rock under him and attach.
Simply pull the clam up Glently by the rock and swish the sand and bristle worms off, and place your little clam where you want.

ps. Don't forget about light acclimation when moving your clams ~!

How do I light acclimate a clam?

There is really no need to acclimate a clam down when discussing a crocea coming from the ocean or a halide environment to a T5 environment.

With T5's and a crocea, immediately place him very high in the tank and leave him there until you pony up for a halide. He will live quite well and will even grow but it's just not the same as Halides.
