When determining baseline for Alk consumption...
When determining a baseline/average for Alk consumption, is it better to...
a) make no adjustments over several days and take measurements around the same time each day and average the consumption over several days/weeks. b) Measure value then dose at same time each day to bring Alk to target and measure consumption 24 hours later, again dosing afterwards to bring Alk up to target value and measure again 24 hours later, repeat. This keeps Alk where I want it but gives me several 24 hr period drops to average out for overall consumption. c) either, just get the average consumption over a lengthy period of time. Currently, I'm doing option B because over 24 hr period (10am to 10am next day) I'll drop from 8.5 to 7.x usually staying above 7.5. Thanks, Joe |
I vote option B for daily rates.

I would dose daily in many situations. The alkalinity level influences the growth rate, so multi-day averages are not all that useful if the dKH changes much. For "much", I'd guess 1 dKH or so, but that's only a guess.

Thanks for the feedback guys, I appreciate it.
