Ato

What would be the best way to set up my ATO so I don't end up with a siphon?

Put the return above your water line

Not sure what you mean. I can't raise the whole sump up. I could possibly have a PVC pipe higher then the ATO tank and pump top off water into that. If that would work.
Oh I get what you mean you don't want the hose sitting in the water. |

Just make a siphon break I had the same issue with my ATO where it's half over and half under my water Line. I explain it in this video

After looking into this a bit I'll probably try to go with a pipe and a siphon break.

I made mine so the hose is about 1/2" above the full water level. That way when the pump shuts off, the water in the hose drains back into the reservoir without any chance of a siphon from the tank.

My ato pumps into my overflow on my display tank so no back siphon.

So this is what I came up with.

Just a pipe on a holder. I put pond foam in the 90 that's between the holder and the pipe where the water will go. I will probably see if I can drill a cap for the top of the pipe to put a hose in.

For those reading you need to avoid syphon both directions. You need to pump OUT to a point higher than the topoff container ( I use a RO Solenoid with multiple safety float switches instead), and you must not have the exit of the topoff water hose under water or it will create a back syphon. I personally like low maintenance, so I prefer the slightly more dangerous method of hooking to my RO unit and using switches and failsafes instead.

The pipe is higher then the ATO. The hose will just sit in the top part of the pipe. It will not be air tight. The pipe also does not go all the way down into the water. The pipe is like a rain gutter.
