clean up crew calculator

Is there a calculator somewhere to order a clean up crew?

Calculator's for cleanup crews are rarely accurate. What size tank do you have, what is your fish and invert list and what kind of cleaning up are you trying to obtain???

Also, fwiw, I usually start with detritivore kits from Inland Aquatics and Indo Pacific Sea Farms to get the little things that mean a lot and reproduce in the tank.

I am NOT a fan of hermit crabs as they kill and eat snails, then steal their shells. Crabs in general are omnivores and may eat many beneficial critters.

Dave,

Tank size is a 110 with two fish, small yellow tang, and a perc. clown. I would say around 150-200 lbs of LR with a 4-5 in. DSB. I am looking for just general clean up. Algea on glass etc. Thanks, Chris

Well, if you don't want the small stuff which isn't necessary but nice, you could go with about 6 turbo snails or trochus snails. They are both relatively long-lived and clean algae very well. The trochus snails cost a little more but are not as clutsy when it comes to knocking over corals. DSB will do well with some fighting conch and Nassarius snails. I would probably add about 50-75 small Nassarius or 25 large Nassarius snails. Maybe 2-3 fighting conch and a small cucumber or two would be a good start.

The good thing about kits from the two companies above is that many of the snails and worms reproduce and free detritivores that reproduce continually is a good thing:)

I like www.reeftopia.com and www.premiumaquatics.com for most of these cleanup crews. Main thing is don't overstock with cleaners as they will just starve to death if not sustained.

Thank you for the information!

How does this sound? I will order from reeftopia.

Snail Turbo (Astrae 12)

Nassarius Snail - 50

Sea Cucumber-2

Nerite Snail-6

They are out of conch's, is there anything else you would add to this list? If I get to $100 I believe it is free shipping. This is only around $70. I think I am going to order a little live sand to help seed mine. My DSB has lots of worms, but I figured it couldn't hurt to add more life.
