most expensive zoanthid rock ever:)

http://www.tropicorium.com/

at $3 a polyp that should cost somewhere between $1500-$2500!!!!!
YIKES!
I think that is the most expensive Zoanthid rock that I have ever seen:)

RichConley 04/06/2007 12:50 PM

$3 per poly? Theyre ugly brown zoos.

akaatomic 04/06/2007 12:53 PM

That's like a $15 frag. Not as bad as some. Some zoas are reported as being sold for $30/polyp! If someone says it's "rare" or "extinct" people will pay big money.

musty baby 04/06/2007 12:53 PM

I think your estimate of 500-800 polyps on that rock might be a BIT high :)

Also, I think they definitely look red, and what's the difference? Ugly green palys demand top dollar these days... (nuclear greens)

If someone says something they're selling is "extinct", they are, by default, a very stupid someone. ;)

reefnetworth 04/06/2007 01:01 PM

everything on that site is outrageously over-priced. i can get that stuff here in nashville, 500 miles from any ocean, at 1/3 of the cost or less.
JDM...:smokin: ...:p

drummereef 04/06/2007 01:03 PM

I think zoas are in general over priced. This is just another example of it. Unfortunately there are people out there that will buy them for any price. :)

kodyboy 04/06/2007 01:05 PM

I may be off on the count, not bored enough to acutally count them, but those are micro zo's very small, at least some of the others are big enough to see.

akaatomic 04/06/2007 01:07 PM

Hey reefnetworth, I'm going to be in Nashville in June with some time to kill. Can you recommend any good stores to check out?

If someone is selling you 5 polyp frags, you're getting hosed. Generally the frags I sell are in the 15-20 polyp range. I think thats generally the standard.

reefshadow 04/06/2007 01:11 PM

Everytime I put "micro" zoas in my tank, they turn macro. For some reason they just get huge in my tank. Is there really any such thing as a "micro" zoa?

Anyhow, they're kinda blah IMO.

akaatomic 04/06/2007 01:14 PM

Polyp count would really depend on the type of zoa. I've bought frags of different sizes from the same person for different prices. One was not as popular and he wanted to get rid of it, the other was in high demand and he could set his price. Here's another example of some high priced zoas:

You can get alien eyes for $1 a polyp around here. They grow like weeds. These ZOA sites are just ripping people off.

RichConley 04/06/2007 01:31 PM

They want $5 a polyp for these:

in most clubs, you can't even give them aaway.

If that is the case, I have about $2000 worth of Zoa's in my tank.

have you seen the kids selling the 1 polyp frags these days? makes me wish we could post comments in the FS threads so people don't get suckered and the whole market screwed in the long term.

exactly. that's why i avoid anyone who prides themselves for spelling it 'ZOA' over 'ZOO', which has been the established *nickname* (not abbreviation) forever. makes me almost as mad as people talking about their 50g 'nano'.

kodyboy 04/06/2007 09:04 PM

ZOA and 50 gallon nano..........:)

reefshadow 04/07/2007 01:11 AM

I have a zoo of zoas in my 50 gallon nano...
