What do i put in my refugium? why?

i just had my wetdry replace with my shinny new refugium, put sand in it, some liverock, and chaeto algea---- what else? why----

at the fs a clerk was saying to put live rock with chalerpa, and i see red algea at the fs--- asking him what to put--- his reply well people put all kinds of stuff in there for all kinds of reasons?

would i want a sand sifter in it?-- crab/star? snails? what other kinds of algea? why?

i choose chaeto instead of chalerpa becasue what i have read-- was it was safer and wouldn't spread.

I would just go with what you have. It sounds like all you really need. What was the reason you got the refugium?

^^ agree with the above post. Also if you going to put fish and inverts in a refuge then it becomes a tank not a refuge. Understand a few snails to keep the alage down or maybe a starfish depending on the size of the fuge.

got the fuge for the prupose of keeping down nitrites/phosphates--also put in some frags that i want to grow quickly---

is there any other kind of algea i would want to put in there?
can i buy copopods and put in there to jump start developemtn of micro organisims?

do you want something to turn over sand like a dt< ? ie sand sifter or do you want sand to be left alone?

your selection of chaeto macro algae was really wise--that's all you need.
You have copopods in your tank already--the idea of the refugium is to give them a save haven from predators so they will multiply

I would not put frags in a refugium--the light is usually not strong enough and they can get covered with different kinds of algae.

I would suggest some reef rubble in the bottom of the refugium then chaeto--that's all you need.

Have a look at this thread--I suggested some ways to encourage chaeto growth
