SC Aquariums Owners Thread

I have been running a JBJ 28G Nanocube since last August.
We bought a yellow tang when it was only 1 inch and thought I could give it away when the tank get too small. Well, he "Ted" is another pet in the house now with a lot attention. We decided to upgrade out tank to keep him and the others.

I was very happy to have a AIO tank. I looked at the RSM C-250, but when you consider that the light needs to be replaced with LEDs, it became too much to pay "$2,199- White". It would look amazing, but pricey.

I noticed another tank on the Amazon. My company gives Amazon gift cards as awards, so I wanted to use that before I spend real money. The company "MarineAndReef" which sells RSM did not want to match prices on their own site. Well, they lost a paying customer.

SC Aquariums was the size that I was looking for and they had a sale for 66G Starfire with the tank. Here is the link for that sale http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00O7D3AXA

I purchased one and waiting for the delivery. I also noticed there are some happy owners and some had issues that could be solved if they could have some advise before they set their tanks up.

This is a thread to discuss and offer solutions for SC Aquarium setups.

After the aquarium arrives I am getting ready to move my Nanocube inhabitants and LR and LS to the new tank along with the water. Since it is a larger tank, how should I do it?

My currents plans are;
Use my existing Chiller - 1/13HP
Use my existing 2xMP10Wes
Use my Reef Angel Controller (Wifi, Vortech and Radion Control, Water Level, pump controls)
Purchase a Radion XR30W as light source

I need to figure out a way to cover the tank. Eggcrate? Plexiglass? Real Glass?

I am open all the help and experience.

Onur,
I am looking at buying a SC 66 gal aquarium and cabinet the price seems great, and I can drive down and pick it up. I am not sure about their pumps and skimmers. I am torn about the sump I may go with a Aqueon 2 or 3 or make my own and use a aqualogic chilller with a drop in coil. I also am doing a little research on the drain but probably will replace the provided drain with a Durso. I preordered a set of vega 100 lights from Reeflab it will be a month before they ship so I am in no hurry. As for a cover I have seen some kits at Bulk Reef supply kind of like a screen door but the material has a looser mesh, you cut it to size and fit the screen into it.

Post some pictures so I can follow your build.

Thanks
Bill

Thanks Bill. Still waiting for the tank. I painted the wall behind it. One the tank gets in there, I won't be able to move ithttp://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/14...005e50d3b8.jpg

The stands need to be assembled and i don't like the looks of the turnbuckle type bolt assembly.

Wall is painted and marked for the tank. Perfect place right in my "I love me wall" http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/14...b0d6045cff.jpg

I aligned the tank location to the studs. I will fix the cabinet to the studs with L brackets. Inside of the cabinet will get corner brackets to increase the integrity.

Arrived today. Nice packaging

I have a SC 66. Extremely pleased with the workmanship and quality. Great tank. Have fun with the build.

jessp 10/22/2014 03:31 AM

chri 10/22/2014 08:26 AM

I am thinking about a 50 cube. where did u order urs from? any cons about it?

I got an SCA a few months ago when they were relocating and looking to move stock.
I got a way too good of a deal to pass, 120g 4x2x2 all starfire w/ 1/2" glass for $500 out the door.
I'm really pleased w/ the build quality of the tank, nice silicone job, very clean.
I only have 2 gripes.
One, I wish they drilled for bigger drains, mine is 1", so you have to have return flow low enough that the drain can handle.
If they drilled bigger at least you have the option to reduce down.
My second gripe does not really concern me personally since I'm a carpenter and always build my own stands anyway, but a fair warning to others that I believe their stands are MDF, not fond of that, they definitely need to correct their stand issues if they want to sell package deals IMO.
Still, overall very happy w/ my purchase, and they were very pleasant people to deal with.

Pics of my SCA 120g
I moved recently so I'm still in the process of doing things to set up properly.
I downsized from a 150g, luckily I was able to keep my octopus cabinet and I cut it down to fit the new tank, still need to put crown moulding back on, but this is my new baby.

Yes. It is the bottom box. It needs some assembly 😁

OceanWolf 10/22/2014 09:09 AM

Try www.scaquariums.com I think there is a sale on going If you can pick it up, the price also goes down.

My stand came fully assembled and is made of 1x and 2x timber with plywood sides and a decent finish. their furniture grade stands and hood are very different from their black stands.

Do you guys have any pics of your tanks?

Thanks, I had to drive an hour and a half to rancho cucamunga to pick it up for that deal, but I had a lockjaw smile on my face the whole way home.

jessp 10/23/2014 08:26 AM

Do you have a link to your stand build? It seems to be a popular one

Onur,
Looking good, " my love me wall" cracked me up we have one of those as well. I definitely plan on at least gluing the stand as well as possible some reinforcements, maybe evan a waterproof tray. What are your plans on pumps, and sump?

Bill
