Vitamins-application-sustaining-benifits-observations

Hello all,

I was wondering what most folks are doing or not doing with vitamins/fatty acid suppliments for corals and fish.

What's the consensus for a mixed reef? What brands?

Are there less expensive alternatives from some place like GNC?

Do refugiums with plant/animal life go a long way to adding important fats and vitamins back to the water through metabolic process?

Thanks in advance....

I haven't seen any reason to believe that adding vitamins is useful. Some of the fatty acid supplements, like Selco, might be useful in some cases. Some animals will synthesize them, though, and a refugium could encourage that.

Thanks for the info bertoni....

Good news as far as I'm concerned. The less you have to add and monitor the better.

You can't mess up what isn't added in the first place. :)

--------------------------

The only reason I asked the question in the first place was because of the number of additives available from reputable companies and thought - somebody must be using these for good and reasons or they wouldn't be selling them. I was also once told that artifical seawater is sterile and lacked any of the vitamins found naturally in the water column around reefs. I was told not only did the fish get nutrition from eating food but from drinking the water as well....

Anyway, less hassle and less complication is a good thing.
