Show Me Your YUMAS!

I did a search and didn't see a yuma-specific show off thread.

So? Make my mouth water!

Damsels R Cool 07/20/2010 02:40 PM

isn't that a ric

Acan Lord 07/20/2010 03:37 PM

That is strange the outside looks like a ric the inside looks like a yuma

Bongo Shrimp 07/20/2010 04:33 PM

Mmmm I think it's just a ric...

Golden Angel 07/20/2010 11:02 PM

Yumas are Rics. Ricordea is a genus and there are two species. One is yuma and the other is florida. The picture is of a Ricordea florida. Not a Ricordea yuma.

Bongo Shrimp 07/20/2010 11:04 PM

Oops, that's what I meant. I think it's a Ricordea florida.

FrankenReef 07/20/2010 11:32 PM

No tentacles on the mouth=florida.
Here's mine

He must have dropped some serious cheese on those! I'm probably gonna get a yellowish one like the first one he had.

There is no such name as a ricordea yuma, it's just a yuma or its not.

That's like saying there's no such name as a Labrador Retriever...

It's a ricordea.
(it's a retriever)
It's a Yuma/Florida
(It's a labrador/golden)

Yep it is the scientific name.

Ricordea florida
Ricordea yuma

Just like there is-

Acanthastrea lordhowensis
Acanthastrea maxima
Acanthastrea echinata
...
...
...

That would be like saying: there is no such thing as Acanthastrea lorhowensis. It is just lordhowensis or not.

It is improper to only use the one name- yuma alone. (even though we all do it because it is like an abbreviation)

NOW, BACK TO SHOWING OFF THOSE (RICORDEA) YUMAS!!!!

That is false info that you have there. Where ever you got that it is wrong. It is not like saying there is no such thing as a labrador retriver. It is more like you saying there is a such thing as a labrador poodle. Many people make this mistake thinking the the florida ric and Yuma are from the same Genus. It is most likely from LFS and other mis informed people spreading an untruth. Not that they did it on purpose but scientificaly there is no such thing as a ricordea Yuma. Yes a florida ricordea does exist and that is the only ricordea that exist, well they come from the carribean and are known as florida rics. Yumas come from the Indo region and are only related the same as they are with any other mushroom.

Where are you getting this info? It's very easy to go on the forums and tell everyone they are wrong. How about some legit info to backup your statements. For example I copied this from a wiki article and it seems to agree with my understanding of the scientific name

Domain: Eukaryota • Regnum: Animalia • Phylum: Cnidaria • Classis: Anthozoa • Subclassis: Hexacorallia • Ordo: Corallimorpharia • Familia: Ricordiidae • Genus: Ricordea • Species: Ricordea yuma

Bongo Shrimp 07/28/2010 02:33 PM

Ooh ooh, pick mee! I have some^

Here's the tracing of the taxonomic tree on the right upper part of the page: http://www.eol.org/pages/101025

http://www.reefcentral.org/forums/sh....php?t=1467481

Read the white text in the upper right corner: http://actiniaria.com/ricordea_yuma.php

Need any more?

Ok, now please don't get my thread unnecessarily locked.

Anyone have any more to show off?

NanoLover 07/29/2010 11:08 PM

This is the first baby of my pink yuma. It's about half an inch across. There are 2 babies with a third one about to split (like in the next day). Sorry the picture is so small.
