Quoyi parrotfish reef safe?
 

Are they reef safe? I am only worried about my cleaner shrimp and neon cleaner gobys. Any and all experiences welcomed

I've had mine in a mixed reef for 3 years. It has never bothered any corals or inverts.

same thing here, totally reef safe 2 years in mixed reef.

Anyone have a negative experience with one?

Ever do any snorkeling in the Caribbean? First they get huge... Second the are coral crunchers. I thought mostly dead skeletons to get the algae, but I have heard that is not always the case. I love them, but only suited for a huge aquarium from all that I have seen.

The largest I have seen and read about is 8".Those who have one what was the size when purchased and size now?

Mine is about 5 inches now, did not grow much, this is a very slow grower even though it consumes large amounts of food.

I got one that was 7" when I got it. Doesnt eat too much, didnt eat in my aquarium for about 2 weeks, and now only eats pellets. Had him over 6-8 months and he is still really healthy. Does not really crunch corals or rocks, but can scrape algae off the rocks a bit. Not a harmful or aggressive fish at all. Easy to care for, doesnt get over 8"(some parrotfish species get way bigger, but this one never exceeds 8") and doesnt eat as much as some say. Great fish, and amazing colors....I love him. Get one, you will be happy.

By the way, got mine at 7", and hasnt really grown in length. Pretty thick fish though:)

Thank you all for the responses. Hens4fish that is simply stunning! The one I'm looking at getting is 5.75" and eating mysis and omega algae pellets. I'm going to pull the trigger on it

I really enjoy mine. It's in a FOWLR so I can't comment on it's reef safeness, though I have it with very small damsels without issue. It didn't scrape the rocks for a while at first, but now does quite a big. Eats anything I throw in the tank. I really ejoy his swimming behavior and colors. Just a wonderful fish.

FWIW fishbase lists it at 15.7" MAX... but even looking through the FB photos, even what look to be the largest males are only around 8-10".

Yeah, do it. You wont regret it. They are peaceful and easy fish to care for...in my opinion. SD guy has a better pic with the super vivid setting, but that is what they actually look like. Just wish mine ate more than pellets, but he is happy:)

Where is everyone sourcing these? Locally or online?

Found mine online, thing with them is the guy Im getting mine from said he orders them from his distributor and they are just named some sort of parrot but end up being the Quoyi when they arrive. I have also heard of others purchasing the parrot labeled as something else ( another kind) and it turned out to be the Quoyi.
