BTA and Carpet Can they mix??
 

Is is ok to have both a BTA and a carpet anemone in the same tank?

I have them in the same tank but they will sting each other when they touch, and one of them will move away. What I've seen is my carpet (haddoni) is making the bubble tip move..

in my parents tank, I have a carpet on sand and BTA on the rocks.

I don't have a carpet anemone, but my nem tank has a RBTA, 2 condys, a LTA, 3 corkscrew anemones, 4 stone flowers and 8 maxi-mini nems all in a 75g hex tank and they have been getting along just fine. Some have been in for 2 years now, the maxi-minis just got added.

are you keeping other corals in there besides anemones? For me personally I noticed that when I mixed different anemone species (different combos at different points in time including: ritteri + bta's, bta's + crispa, bta's + gigantea) a LOT of my LPS did not do well--specificallly some of my hammer corals (I have several varieties), several of my favias. However, all of my softies (zoas, gsp's, leathers) did fine. It was noticeable within 2 weeks of adding the 2nd nem. Yet, when I removed the ritteri, or crispa, or BTA, and was only left w/1 species, things reverted back to thriving within a month.

My tank is 60 gallons +20 gallon sump, and yes, I even ran carbon. Interestingly, the anemones themselves were never affected, only corals. I posted this on another thread wondering if anyone's ever had similar experiences, but no one has said anything. Perhaps my total tank volume may be on the small side? Who knows.

Interesting you say that. That is the main reason for the question. Days after we introduced a carpet to our tank w/ a BTA, we lost our bubble coral, torch and frogspawn. Duncans were the only ones that didn't die. I thought it was odd and wondered if it did have something to do w/ it. Others have said no way that is the reason. Your post makes me question it again.

We have since added a hammer and frogspawn and they seem to be doing fine. I am watching them closely though.

Wow, and here I thought I was the only one as well! I have several varieties of hammers, and my aussie gold one started receding VERY badly and one other one's mouth started gaping. However, my frogspawn (wall type) did not appear to be affected. In the past, the torches that I had, even though previously thriving, receded and the head popped off.

Sold BTAs 1 month ago and am left w/gigantea carpet only, and the recession on the aussie gold hammer stopped. Favias are coming back. War coral growth is back. I am 100% convinced that there's chemical warfare that affects LPS, and not softies or 'nems. ( I don't keep SPS, so cannot comment on that)

I'm thinking that ppl who have not been affected either A. have large tanks, or B. keep anemones only.

How big is your tank?
