Where to buy lanthanum chloride and small enough filter socks?

Correct me if I am wrong but I think most people are using Seaklear phosphate reducer for their lanthanum chloride...just cant find it online for sell?

Also, where is best place to get some filter socks small enough for this? (5 micron, 10 micron, etc) Does it matter if it is felt or mesh? Id prefer larger bags since my drain pipes are pretty large/long.

Thanks!

There are several on line sources noted in this thread:

Either 5 or 10 microns should be fine, and I think the same is true for felt vs mesh. I haven't used this type of product, so I don't know where to get it.

pretty long linked thread. what about seachem's mesh "the bag"?

Seachem Filter Media Holding Bag 10 inch x 5 inch

I got the Seaklear and the filter sock both on ebay(different US sellers) so, check ebay :)

I don't think that the seachem media filter bag would work. Pretty sure it's more like 100 microns or more.

you are correct. i should have looked it up before posting.
it is a 180 micron bag.

If you google Seaklear phosphate remover. You'll find lots of places that sell this stuff in the US and ship. I'm from Canada and had to buy from the US. Seaklear was nowhere to be found in Canada.
Here's a place that sells the Seaklear Aquaria(it's the same thing as the seaklear for pools) and they sell filter socks too. http://www.aquaticeco.com/

my LFS sells the 10 micron bags and IV bags to drip the LACL into the system. Pretty nice.

I would highly suggest reading through that thread. It's well worth it if thinking of using LC.

I picked up a bottle of Phosfree many years ago. It has a pretty clean SDS. Since they also have an extra strength version that's even more cost effective. ~11% for the regular version and ~26% LC for the extra strength version. I would stay away from the commercial or pro versions. If you look at their SDS sheets they include other elements like Zinc.

yes, i agree your opinion

I've been using PhosFree (Leslie Pools) for years. I get large cheap 10 micron bags here

https://www.dudadiesel.com/search.ph...g&i=filterbags

I drip daily by mixing 10ml in with my carbon dosing
Clean the socks with sodium percarbonate in the washing machine, totally safe
Controls phosphate cheaply, easily and better then GFO in a heavily fed system IMO

With organic carbon dosing, I have no need for LC. or other phosphate removers to maintain a PO4 level of less than 0.05ppm. The heterotrophic bacteria use it .

drtango 11/24/2015 06:56 PM

I've not been able to achieve that with my current tank...close but not quite. I don't have a refugium or any macroalgae. My only export is the skimmer and filter sock.

And, I should clarify, the 10ml of 11% lanthanum is mixed in a liter of vinegar/ethanol, dripped at about 90ml daily into. 10micron sock.

I get readings of 0.00 on the Hanna low range meter...which means I likely have phosphates below the resolution of the meter but certainly present, it reads +|- 0.04 ppm per their specs.
