My D-D H2ocean 1st batch numbers

OK so i got around to mixing up my 1st 5 gallon water change using a refractometer at a salinity of 1.025.

This is from a 14.55 lb bucket and is the Pro+.

I mixed the salt really well 1st in the bag it came in and dumped it back into the Pro+ bucket.

Water used was RODI.

Water has been mixing for 24 Hrs +

Using Salifert test kits:
Alk = 8.9
Cal = 410
Mag = 1170

Mag is a bit low but i'm not too worried i can adjust.

The salt mixed very well (clean/clear)

That's disappointing if the magnesium really is that low, but as you say, it is easily corrected. :)

I like where the Alk and calcium is though-

I agree that those numbers are fine.

Good response from the corals after the water change last night. This morning i used the light on my phone to look into the tank and the sps had really nice polyp extension.

The D-D H2Ocean is probably my favorite salt, except for the price. Cal & Mag seem a bit lower than what I've tested in the past.

The numbers you got are very close to what I got mixing from a recent bucket of standard (blue bucket) Red Sea salt. (Alk 8.9, Cal, 420, Mag 1200 with Salifert kits).

I used D-D H2Ocean in the past and had great response with my SPS, I am trying another brand now and am not to pleased with it and will have to pay the extra for the D-D H2Ocean and its worth it.

i use DD-H2ocean, did u roll/mix the bucket to get even mixture?
i get in a freshly made saltwater after 24hrs cal 430-460 alk 9-10 and mag 1350-1450
i have a 55 gal bin for saltwater mix, so i just buy their small buckets that makes 55 gal water so this way i use it all and dont have to worry about salt settling.

As per my 1st post i did mix the salt very thoroughly. I mixed it at 1.025 so its a little week on purpose. Maybe a mag mistest by me?

bertoni 05/07/2012 10:24 AM

That could be. It's hard to say what's happening. We see a lot of reports of off parameters in salt products, though.

it is possible to have bad batch and also could be a bad test too. either are possible.
