New Basement Sump Setup: Loud Vibration Through Plumbing?

Ive been working on a new setup And i think Im to the final step. I have an terrible vibration and noise from the pump through the PVC plumbing into the floor. I realize it is hard to trouble shoot so ill try to start by adding photos.

It appears the vibration is traveling from the pump throught the pump in the following areas
- on the intake side (1” pvc) to the acrylic sump. I can feel vibration in sump. - through the output side (1 1/4” pvc) to the floor and the back of the stand where the plumbing is mounted. Ive tried to loosen the metal clamps holding the pipe to the floor joists but it only reduced noise slightly. Ive thought about cutting the pip on the intake and output sides and adding 6”-12” of soft tube to try to break the vibration. Is it possible the plumbing size is to small? Any ideas? |

I added 5' of vinyl tubing before the pvc and it makes pipe noise silent.

On yours I would add 2' to your first T. The only problem with adding tubing is the barbed hose adaptors restrict flow, with that pump you may be alright. With a DC pump you would want to go up a size for the tubing so flow is not restricted.

on a side note... whats with the brass valve above the tank?
brass contains copper which over time will leach out from the brass fitting and copper is toxic to marine organisms.. It is only ok to have copper being used before a RO/DI filtration system.. Nothing after that should be copper/brass.. |

The other thing to consider is that you may be constricting the suction side of that pump. Hard to tell from the photo, but it looks like smaller diameter piping than the pressure side ..... plus it is too long. That may be causing the pump to vibrate/cavitate unnecessarily.

Get rid of the valve on the intake side. For best performance, you want the intake to be as wide as feasible- probably 1.5 inches for that pump. If you need to dial it back, do so after the pump on the output side.

What’s the diameter of the intake on the pump? Not the pvc, the actual thread on the volute housing you attach the pvc to? 1 inch?
If so- ditch the valve, and the union. You don’t need a union if you have silicone tube attached with pipe clamps. Find a 1” slip to 1.5 inch fipt adapter, preferably one with a threaded female end. I assume your bulkhead is slip. If threaded, use the appropriate mipt x fipt adapter https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...01e16f1d83.jpg Screw on a 1.5” mipt hose barb https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...de84f0365b.jpg and attach 5-6 inches of 1.5 inch silicone tubing https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...02500d83c5.jpg to 1.5 inch fipt threaded barb, https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...fbe7ba1cb0.jpg To a 1.5 inch MIPT to 1inch fitp bushing https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...0181d25709.jpg Onto the pump. This keeps everything above 1 inch, which is the size of the bulkhead and the intake. You won’t have to worry that you are restricting flow more than necessary. Pump model number? The parts I’ve described should work, it seems convoluted by it should keep everything between the bulkhead and the intake above 1 inch, plus removes the unnecessary union and valve. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
i also recommend a section of soft tubing to help with vibrations. Also, while you are working, you may want to throw something in between the pump and the wood it is mounted on. Never know, it may be contributing a bit to the vibrations. I use a cheap silicone square pot holder and it seems to do the trick.

New setup. I found 1.5” inner diameter tubing .

That will probably leak out the threads. I hope it does not.
don't use barbed fittings that really cuts/restricts flow Your pump is so strong the barbed fittings may fly. |
