Show off your S. gigantea

We have threads about everything but I don't think we ever have a thread for us to display this rare (at least in aquarium) beautiful and hard to keep magnificent animal.

I would love to see all the Gigantea of Reefcentral. I hope at least most would show in this thread. A little about the animal, the aquarium, and how long you have had him would be very informative and helpful.

Let's see them.

My holy grail gigantea was purchased in February from a fellow reefer. It's in a 60 gallon cube, with 2 AI Sol led units. It's been under the Sols since about April, prior to that, a 250 metal halide.

It seems to prefer lower flow, the MP40 in the tank is set towards the middle of the range, reef crest. The return is a mag 5.

Reefvette,
Nice anemone. What kind of light, temp, and circulation do you have him in? TIA

It's pretty unmistakable, though a tighter focus and stronger backlighting would allow you to make out the individual eggs (which are pretty small). Visual presence of eggs identifies females, but absence of eggs does not necessarily indicate males since females can be without eggs for some periods during the year.

I know not the best quality pictures. Have a old camera. Need R1589 to get back home to take better quality pictures. IS bleached but is coming back. Have been feeding it Rod's Food, Krill and flakes.

OrionN 08/28/2012 02:26 PM

Wifi, Looking good. Your's is way little, but seem to be doing very well. How long have you had him?

Actually he was bigger, but more bleached with just the outer rim showing some purple. Been going back and forth with the halide bulbs. Like I said he is under a 14 k bulb now that has yellowed. He is in a 29 Hqi bio cube with my mated pair of clowns. I have had him now for alittle over 3 months, it might be 4. Have 2 Power heads that are on a Hydor wave maker on the left and right side of the tank. They both come on at 15 second intervals.
I got him maybe two or three weeks after Reef1589 got his first S. Gig that is in his 65 gal shallow.

OrionN 08/29/2012 10:40 AM

Reef1589. Did you steal my anemone and clowns? Seriously, I was looking at this thread again, and wow. They look the same as mine!! Hahahaha

All these giganteas drive me insane. What a beautiful animal it is! I love the yellow in yours Minh, sort of reminds me of raspberry cheesecake for some reason...

Gary, I'm still jealous :)

Jamie1210 08/30/2012 11:55 AM

really love your gig, Deepsea, i don't usually seem blue ones that are 100% blue, from tip to bottom of tentacles ... usually, the blue gigs (like mine) are just blue at the tip and tan at the bottom!
