not exactly sure why you haven't had any replies until now. These videos are great and they show something that I haven't really seen before (live rots swimming). I have seen a lot of fry tanks with green tinted water and all that good stuff but I think this one really shows the correct number of rots swimming around the best.
Listen I am no expert but I have done many hours of reading (I'm a slow reader) and have watch about a million videos on breeding fish. I am about 5 months into my brood stock tank now with three pairs of clowns. The only advice I think I may be able to give is that I think you may need to put some sort of light filter on the light because I think its a bit to powerful for them. In your morning after hatch video I think I see a lot of the fry on the bottom of the tank, head down. which from my reading experience means the light is too powerful for them. On day two the fry seem to be a little better acclimated to the light and swimming around a little better. So I'm not sure if you lost any between day one and two but if you did this could have helped a little or if not I think it cold have helped keep the stress down a bit until they get a little older. Few things the videos don't show and I'm sure you are doing it but if not this will be a good reminder. Many hours of dim light. Fry will only eat with the light on, and need to eat almost constantly. Give them a few ours of lights out, but much less then normal. I have heard some people will keep the lights on for 20 hours a day and slowly add about 15-30 of extra night time every night. Cover the light on your heater. I can't tell in your videos but the same thing applies. They will try to swim to the light at night and if the water is not moving enough around the heating they may die because of being to close to the heater. Good luck with your little guys... Keep the videos and updates coming, maybe we can all learn a thing or two of help steer you down the correct path with any questions you may have. |
Day 3 it's looking up.
Thank you Jaypilot for the words of encouragement.
I have only tried this twice before and on day three I was down to a hand full or so. My loses this time have been very minimal maybe a 15-20 fry. I figure it’s a natural thing to lose some, nature dominates those calls. I chose to run lights 24 hours for the first 2 day then last night I gave them 8 hours of rest. When I turned lights on this morning they were all on the bottom but within about 5 minutes they were up feeding nicely. It’s nice to have a little success for a change and simple changes can make a huge difference. I have filtered the light a bit not sure it needed but have the evening to observe their behavior. http://s1143.photobucket.com/albums/...ent=S5day3.mp4 |
No real point just kind of cool.
Here is something I found very intrusting if not intriguing. I set up an infrared home surveillance cam on the fry tank the light you see is not real light the tank is pitch black.
This video is 15 minutes after lights out. After 45minutes most are settle in on the bottom for the night. No real point, just thought it was interesting how long it takes them to settle down. http://s1143.photobucket.com/albums/...rent=hmmmm.mp4 |
What and how much are the parents getting fed? This could be why you lose several of the young.

How often are you feeding the parents and what are you feeding them?

I'm feeding them a mixer of Rod's, PE mysis, Brine, Pellets all mixed together once daily.

You start with a very cured established tank panicle water chemistry and a mated pair of clowns, then work from that. How long have you been in the hobby and how long have your had you tank set up? |
Just started a few brine shrimp.
Rolling into meta now, put a few freshly hatch brine shrimp in with them, not many and they started feeding on them right away. Anyone have a guess how many fry may be in the tank?

hey sport, did you black the tank walls? and what type of light are you using?

Night video with new brine shrimp.
Another night video with my infared camera. I think this is cool the lights have been off for over 45 minutes and you can see the tiny brine shrimp I just started feeding they are the little white dots. Watch closly and you will see the the fry grabbing them.
For some reason I fill like I'm talking to myself in this thread. Will not post anymore updates. http://s1143.photobucket.com/albums/...htviewday6.mp4 |

Day 8 and no loses.
They are getting their stripe behind the eye. Sorry, but you really can't see it in the video.

Awesome!

Thanks
|
Looking good! It's smooth sailing once you make it past meta.

Thanks Jason
I’m just glad I had 2 buckets of rots going, I didn’t expect that many to make it and I’m getting low on rotifers. What should I be feeding besides the rots and baby brine. In other words what is the next stage of food for them? The question is not just for Jason but anyone that may have an answer. I do have some TDO C-1 on hand. |
