How to tell if heater is bad???
I have started to awaken to a cold dark tank. I dont know what is causing it.
When I check my heaters I find only half of the length of the heater is getting hot. I changed two things before these overnite gfci trips occured. 1 - moved my two tunze 6055 on a 7096 to the gfci and off the reefkeeper 2 I added a older nano kora to the sump Ideas? I am traveling for the holiday weekend really worry about the dead tank upon return Suggestions? |
The heater is probably bad. They tend to go bad often.
What kind of reefkeeper is it? Edit: I keep a kill-a-watt plugged into my heaters. If they start to burn out usually it doesn't happen at once. If they don't pull the rated watts within a few watts chances are they are on there way out. |
reefkeeper 2, I used it as my temp controller.
Only problem is channel 4 is malfunctioning why |
Bad temp probe, or perhaps Electrical interference.
Skimmer pump was making my probe go crazy. |

sorry let me clarify
the gfci tripped and the whole tank power was off, cold dark no flow |
Turn channel 8 to always on.
There is a bug with the RK2 that they could not solve. For whatever reason if you leave channel 8 always on the bug goes away. I have never seen it trip the gfci though. The heater might have knocked something out in the controller. |
I have circuit #8 at the temp controller.
Number 4 circuit is stuck to on/off, I can choose auto but it doesnt give me the choices after. ideas? |
Sounds like it is burned up. I would contact digital aquatics and see if they have any answers.
|
My heaters seem okay, it is more likely the older kora.. It sounds rough in the sump.
I have reconnected the tunze 6055 to circuit 4. So far so good. |
I'd take the return pump off that gfci or get one just for that pump.

Thanks for the replies,
I have connected something to channel 4 and it is set to always on. I have taken the koralia nano out of the sump. any issues of a similar nature with the da reefkeeper lite? How easy is the aquacontroller jr to program vs the reefkeeper II? |
I have not heard of any issues like this with the RKL but regardless of the issue I still think the RK2 one of the better controllers.
I have had a couple opportunities to upgrade but after 3 years if dependable service i will stick with my RK2 until it dies. 7 channels is more then I need. |
Thank you all for your help.
I have performed a reset and now channel 4 is giving me all the options of programming. I have left channel 4 and channel 6 always on. |
