Don't post the picture's address as a link, click the picture on the tool bar that looks like a mountain, that will allow you to "Insert Image" the copy and paste the picture's address there.

Click on the image you want to post, then on the right side at the bottom you'll see "sizes". Click on "Huge Thumbnail", then copy the link for "BBCode"(It has the [img][/img] tags). Paste that here and it's the perfect size.

Thanks. I have the 3 snails along with the shrimp from the three gal tank I had running, the only new additions are the two Chromis viridis.

Reefpuck 12/28/2017 10:29 PM

Gotcha!

fishdip22 12/29/2017 08:58 AM

So I ordered a Macro Aqua M-60 hang on skimmer they rate it for a 120gal tank but as we all know that is way over rated so I think it will do well on the 20.

Skimmer is in

So even with powerheads blasting the surface I keep geting what looks like a oil slick on the top of the tank. So what can I use to skim it off that is not a surface skimmer attatchment. And could it be the PE mysis shrimp that is leading to this?

HOB surface skimming

One option you have is to create a small weir and put the intake for the HOB into it. I don't think I have any pictures but I had done this on a 20L a few years ago and it worked great. All I used was a 3" diameter section of acrylic I had, cut it to length so that it was about an inch below the top of the tank, stuck it in the corner and put the HOB intake in. It worked great. This also allows you to be very precise with your ATO as the evap shows up quick.

I can't recall the name but someone has a build thread with multiple anemone tanks made from 20 longs and they made up some internal weirs to create the same effect. I'll see if I can find and post a link.

Thanks,
Matt

Lol I know who you are talking about he also use 5k worth of "art" in the tanks. Is there any other options such as device that I can just use to skim the top of the tank and remove just the oil?

tundra1000 01/03/2018 06:27 PM

True, but it does not need to be too complex. All you are trying to do is direct the HOB to intake from the top 1/2" of the water instead of 6" under. This can be accomplished by a weir or by pulling directly from the surface. Take a look at a picture of the Octopus HOB classic 100. It directs the intake back up to the surface with an adjustable intake. Perhaps you could mod what you have.

Beyond that... my already limited thoughts are exhausted.

Thanks,
Matt
