skimmer stand for rubbermaid tub?

Looking for suggestions on how to install my skimmer into a rubbermaid tub? I am thinking of doing a 100 gallon rubbermaid tub for a sump but will need to elevate the skimmer so that it is only in about 6 in of water. Didnt know if I could use cinder blocks or not. Would a cinder block be porous enough that it would actually house bacteria like live rock. My plan is to install a in sump return pump and fill the tank with mostly live rock. What do you all think?
thanks
Jeff

I always make my skimmer stands out of egg crate and pvc pipe. I create 4 legs out of pvc drill holes and zip tie their ends to the egg crate.

To keep my skimmer sitting at the correct depth in my rubbermaid stock tank I made a simple box out of acrylic for it to sit in. The box is on a PVC platform and the overflow from the tank (60g FT) dumps directly into the skimmer box that then simply overflows into the stock tank. My heaters are underneath the stand out of the way.

I'd say either egg crate or you can start with a milk crate base since they are heavy duty.

I used them plastic crates they sell in different sizes at Walmart when I used a Rubbermaid sump.

All great ideas!! I like the idea of the acrylic box on top of the pvc, egg crate platform. Skimmed water would be directly from the overflow. My main draw back for that idea would be the size of my skimmer. I have a swc 350 cone skimmer.
do you guys use a circulation pump inside the stock tank for water flow within the tank or would dropping the water on one side of tank and the submersible pump on the other side create enough flow through the rock?
thanks
Jeff
