When we started this, it was to keep people shooting over the summer, and to make you think about a "different" way to shot a shot to make it fit a subject. One pic each only makes it fair. Shots go up Friday to keep others from seeing what someone else did and using their shot. The summer is usually dead in here.

Can we make a Sticky for the contest rules? With the traffic in and out I think it would help.
|
I'll just put it at the top of the pic threads from now on.

Rules smooles....

Sorry - I'll go with the rules from now on. But my camera taking is more summer. |
And that's why I haven't posted a pic yet. I'm hoping to get something tomorrow. :)
Doug, you could wipe this away with a thought. You can do whatever you want!!!! |
I will say that bending the "rules" has resulted in more participation. I think Id rather see that?? The more the merrier. I do think that one photo per person, per contest must remain...

Nice Jesse!
Again, I like the composition with the curves and width. For me there is a fun sense of implied motion with the ball about to roll down a hill or track thing. I'm glad for the discussion about the "fresh pic" rule. I am for it. Personally, having to compose, shoot and edit something with a deadline is a very different experience for me than simply going through my old pics to find something that vaguely fits. It not only encourages thinking and creativity, but mandates doing, which is the core of this exercise, in my opinion. And as Jesse already mentioned, beer guy could walk away victorious weekly with about a minute's worth of "search his archive and post". That said, I have observed the significant uptick in participation when the fresh pic rule wasn't being enforced, and that is also a good thing. I'm not sure how to balance freshness and participation and I'm not a fan of increasingly complex rules and fine print. Stick with the fresh pic rule? Maybe one's first entry in the "contest" does not have to be fresh, but others do? Or if one ever "wins" the weekly theme, all your subsequent entries must be fresh? Or just agree to toss the fresh pic rule entirely? |

I haven't said much about people using older pics as yes, it brings more people. I did start this though to keep the camera in your hands, not on the shelf. |
Honestly I post for fun and sometimes to give people ideas. I think posting older photos is fine, but they probably shouldn't be considered for judging.
|
Fwiw, I only posted an older pic because I figured that's where everything was heading, seeing previous threads. That and I have next to no time to really take pictures of anything not on my own property these days. :)

Ryan, pick a winner please.
