What's your budget?

Jasonanatal 04/21/2008 02:45 PM

Not really focusing on a budget just looking for the best model for my range. This also doesn't mean that I'm going to purchased experimental equipment for a 1000 gallon setup. LOL

The MSX-200 Protein Skimmer resembles the ASM G Series of Protein Skimmers are they similar?

McCrary 04/21/2008 03:02 PM

I run a H&S 200-1260 and I like it a lot. Its used on my 110 gallon tank, which it might be a little big for but I have always liked to skim aggressively. I am always surprised at how much junk it pulls out for the amount of food that I feed. There are a lot of very good skimmers on the market, for me the decision came down to getting one from a company with a good reputation and minimal maintenance. I didn't want a skimmer that would be outdated or obsolete in a year or two. So far my H&S as served me very well and hasn't required me to fiddle with it, which is exactly what I wanted.

ATB Small, BK SM200, & MSX-200

In that order..

You can't go wrong with any of these, just depends on what you want to spend.

Not at all! The MSX will blow the asm away.

No skimmer under $1000 can could close to it performance. People on here are getting 1250lph from these skimmers. That is a crazy amount of air!

No, ASM not even in the same ballpark..
MSX-200 is about/if not, the best skimmer you can buy for under $500..

since your not on a budget i would suggest a del-tec i own three of them and i seem to get the best results from them compared to everything else i've owned

Well, I'll admit he's 1/2 right :)

Oh i should of made it clear I was talking about skimmers that don't run on magic pixie dust. With those skimmers:

950lph + magic pixie dust = 1900 LPH.

As you can see this magic pixie dust is really powerful stuff. It turn an "average" skimmer into....

What is a MSX skimmer where do you buy one? Thanks in advance

ReefRockerLive 04/21/2008 07:48 PM

I would go for an H&S skimmer over a Deltec any day. The Deltecs are just overpriced H&S skimmers. The ATB skimmers are likely to be better than the H&S. JMO
