Reef radiance dm-155e

My light came in on Friday so I thought I would share. So far I'm very happy with the lights, which were a much needed upgrade. Not only is the light great Rick from Reef Radiance was very nice, helpful, and super fast at getting back to me via email. I'm trying to get a good picture with just the blue lights on, but they keep washing out, so here is one with everything on. The brightness is probably about 20% white 40% blue. After works over this weekend I'll post more pictures on Monday.

Thanks for sharing, what are the dimensions of your display tank and how far is the bottom of the DM-155e fixture from the surface of the water? Looks like pretty good spread side to side with just 1 unit. Is the spread good from front of glass to back of glass?

billsreef 08/04/2013 09:04 AM

Looking good. I got my IT 2040 on Friday as well. Now I just need to make supports to hang it.

ERivera65 08/04/2013 01:51 PM

Awesome, I got mine as well! Rick is a great guy and fast at replying! Did you take your lenses off or are you keeping them on?

Crimthann 08/04/2013 03:13 PM

The light spread is about 24 inches x 12 at 5 inches above the water with the 90 degree optics. I'm also more like 15% white 30% blue now that I'm home looking at it. The spread increases some when I turn it up, but I'd like to get my corals use to the increased lighting. I had intended on mounting the light 2-3 inches higher, but I apparently measured poorly when rushing to get it up before work. So something I intend on fixing during the week. I would also like to try removing the optics since its a small talk, and I'd rather have more spread than I need depth since I only have about 11 inches of water to the sand bed.

Over all still very very happy, just a few changes that I need to make on my part.

Bill, what type of supports are you building, you mean like a lamp tree or a shelf above? Why nor hang straight from the ceiling?

billsreef 08/05/2013 04:51 AM

I'm in a rented apartment, so no drilling holes for attachments in the walls or ceiling. Just going with a quick and dirty PVC frame attached to the stand that I can hang it from. Knocked one out in about 15 minutes, not counting the HD trip :D Couple of minor tweaks to make in my measurements. Then I'll paint it black to match the stand and light to give it finished look, instead of the current wet lab service look :D

What are the dimensions of the tank you're using it on?

This is how mine looked with a different light fixture

Home.depot adjustable shelf brackets. Spent about $30 for the two wall posts and two shelf brackets. Then I just screwed it to my aquarium stand.

you could just remove some of the optics on each end and allow more spread but still keep the optic in the center for more punch toward the center of the tank too, also by lifting the light a bit more will give you better spread, if you can keep as many optic as possible though, you'll be able to run the light at a lower setting and extend it's life a bit more, and with less heat too...just a couple thoughts I had :)

and congrats on a fine Reef Radiance product, it looks great over your tank too, those weren't available when I bought my DM132e lights or I may have had a set of those instead, but I love mine just the same :)

Hello all! I know this thread is from some time back, but I was wondering how is your Reef Radiance experience thus far. I'm thinking about getting them and would love to hear from you. Thanks

DRThompson 09/18/2013 06:45 AM

Got mine about a month ago, very happy with the light and customer service.

If you don't mind, can you tell me which light model you bought? Thanks

DRThompson 09/18/2013 11:12 AM

the dm155e, hang it about 10inches from the waterline. I grow sps at bottom, my tank is 30inch tall.

How many do you have on your tank and what is the spread on 1 fixture? How close to the water are they? I just bought 2 radions and wanted to use a different light to compare. I need at least 3 lights total and this looks like a good one to add. Also, can't beat the price.

Thanks. I emailed them and got a quick response. They recommended two of the dm155e or one of the lumentek pro 240. Decisions, decisions... :fun2:

Have 3 lights over my tank (5ft long) . Hangs about 10" above waterline. The spread is easily 2ftX2ft. I grow sps at sand level (30" deep)

Remember all LEDs are going to have the greatest par right below the light.

Lacy 09/18/2013 07:40 PM

Thanks for the info.

Lacy 09/20/2013 01:57 PM

I wonder if one of these would be overkill on a 12 gallon nano?

billsreef 09/20/2013 06:20 PM

Probably :D

I've got my IT-2040 over a 29g. Right now the blues max out at 30% and the whites at 15%. Not sure if I'll end up going up a bit or not with the intensity. The sea rod I collected in 15' of water seems real happy at this current setting.

Scream311 03/10/2016 06:07 PM

I know this is a long shot on an old thread.

But I'm wondering if any of you still run Reef Radiance LEDs.

I bought 3 of the DM155 E fixtures also Dec of 2013 and they stopped lighting up Nov of 2015

Didn't even get a Full Two Years out of them....

anyone else share similar experience ? Is this Normal for Black Box LEDs ?

I was told parts were no longer available and I should purchase 3 new fixtures.

Don't wanna do that if there just gonna burn out in two years !
