What nori do you use?
I was wondering what kinds of nori people use. I was thinking about just buying the omega one brand since I do like their foods but I also hear you can buy some at an asian food market and it's the same thing. So what do you use?
I buy mine from Publix in the asian section. Same stuff and cheaper than buying at the pet stores.
I get it from the little asian food store on the corner by my house. Just make sure it's not flavored. Seaweed or roasted seaweed should be the only ingredient on the label.
cool thanks! what does it mean when it's roasted?
omega one brand seems to keep my tangs happy!! if you can, read the ingredients on the packages at store & look for all natural
Can't beat $2.99 at Walmart for 20 sheets.
I get mine from the grocery store also . "Roasted" is just dried by heat.
walmart huh? I had no idea! Is that in the isle with all the taco stuff?
Any Nouri from the Asian food store will work. As stated, just get the roasted stuff. The ingredients listed on the back should say "Seaweed". Seaweed is seaweed. It's all the same.
sushinow.com offers 100% roasted nori seaweed with no additives in 50 sheet resealable packs for approx $8. ive been feeding it for 2 years and have had great results.
I buy nori from the local asian market. Human grade is best for your tank

very cool guys! thanks I will have to check out our local asian market :) I am also going to make my own nori holder like the one on BRS. Hopefully I can find magnets that have a rubber coating on them or something.
I use Julian Sprung, but I have also used the grocery store stuff in the past. I use TLF algae magnet, and I highly recommend it. It allows me to feed the algae without getting my hands wet.
for my main use, I do have a couple bags of nori from the grocery store. But at times I like to use the red and purple seaweed under the julian sprung brand. I've found that, when first getting fish in my quarantine, the variety will entice them to eat if they're struggling to acclimate. It's much more expensive to use that as a norm, though, so I only break it out for specific purposes.

I have been using rods algae sheets, been looking around and cant find any for cheaper or sheets that arent seasoned
We are using roasted seaweed from Winco; I think it was maybe 3 dollars for about 10 sheets.
When buying it at the store, take a look at the Iron %, some are very high. I've seen blooms when using the high percentage stuff, 2-10% is what I shoot for.
Look at nori direct . com
great pricing, out local club did a group buy from there a while ago. |
very cool! I will have to look at the iron on the bag that I just bought. It just said roasted seaweed on the bag and it was $5 for 50 sheets WAY cheaper than ones made for aquarium use :) thanks guys!

Always at the Asian Store for years. I just bought a 2 ounce bag of strips
2"x.5" for $1.97. Its great for a snack, too. My Purple loves it. I just tear it up a little more, mix it with frozen food, and water. Pour right in, forget the clips. |
