how often do you feed an anemone?

I have had this GBTA for a week now and we got some food for it, and was wondering how often I should feed it? we have some brine shrimp and whole silverside fish.

Once a week for sure. More than that is always fine too

once every 2 weeks, and my gbta is growing nicely, actually a little too fast.

Mine was fed every time my clown took something to it, which was everyday

Before I split my 9" RBTA, I fed it a little every day. I was trying to get it to split on its own. After a month of feeding every day, I got impatient and pulled out the knife and split it in half. Once the clones healed up, I resumed feeding about a 1 inch piece of silverside to each one every day.

JMO, but I feel that a lot of people overfeed their anemones. I currently have 4 Haddonis and 1 LTA, at most I feed them once every 3 weeks. The oldest of those anemones is 9+ years old.

I agree. Mine do get fed and probably a little every day but I rarely (if ever) target feed mine. They only get what ever makes it past my fish. I do feed my fish heavily so, again, mine do get some food, but I am not shoving large pieces of food into them. A link that shows a few of mine (some more than 5 years.. one more than 14 or 15 years)

I think PE mysis can be a great food (high in protein) but not a sole food because I believe that they lack the omega 3s. For most anemones I feel that silversides are a bad choice. Brine is pretty low in nutritional value.

1 piece of krill every 10 days is what my rbta gets...he sneaks down a couple mysis whenever i feed the rest of the tank though..

If an anemone is capturing food every day when the fish get fed, that can add up to quite a bit of food over time. I usually don't have many fish in with my anemones so I feed them once every week or two. Sometimes more often. Lately I've been feeding them twice a week. That probably won't last long though. Basically, I feed them when ever I feel like it.

Here is a brief video from my YouTube Channel illustrating how to feed Anemones and LPS corals. Hope this helps.

I don't feed my RBTA at all. From time to time it'll scavenge very small amounts of leftover food from the fish feeding, and that's plenty for it, really.

aleonn 11/10/2010 01:52 AM

I feed my GBTA every 1-2 weeks. I used to feed PE mysis, but my clownfish always try to steal the food. Now I feed silversides.
