For those that want a quick explanation of my routine. I dose collected seawater, half the tank per week., plus dissolve shell with reactor, and add bicarb to keep hardness and calcium from dropping (and it will! ) inbetween the weekly water changes.

I do not add anything else except phosguard maybe once every couple of months.

dca22anderson 04/24/2012 08:48 PM

Wow, that is doing it RIGHT!

amazing man!

dave.m 04/24/2012 10:21 PM

With the plastic cover, or in spite of it, how much of your light would you say comes from the sun versus your MHs/LEDs?

I love the natural look you've got going on. The colours, the corals, the fish selection are all excellent!

Wow. I am so impressed.
Your tank is perfect.
I do love Aussie SPS.
Thank you for sharing.

ACRO AL 04/25/2012 07:51 AM

thanks dca22anderson, achilles18, dave.m, boboli, and laredo300c.

The sun here in perth reaches 81.5 degrees altitide in december, and 34.5 in june.

max temps average 19c or so in winter, 35c in summer, with some days over 40c

The roof you see is interchanged between clear and blue tint. The blue tint is used for higher sun paths in summer to avoid high PAR/infra red, causing LPS bleaching and excessive heat. Then the clear is intalled when the PAR drops in winter.

The Sun in summer gives 120,000 Lux, 2000PAR - too high for some LPS, but great for acro colouration - (even some acro bleaches.)

Winter goes way down to 70,000 Lux or so.

Either way I get about 4 hour path from the sun. The end of the tank faces north, so I always get 4 hours, and noon is always aligned just the altitude angle changes.

kinlayan 04/25/2012 09:46 AM

What a great and simple system!

Do you buffer the NSW and what is it's normal dkh from sea ?
you add the nsw direct but isnt there a risk of adding parasites?
Do you use ozone or UV?

It all looks fantastic!

Especially the hard to keep purple queens what do you feed do you think NSW helps you with those due to live plankton you add Can you show how you do add the live artemia ??

Sorry just took the time to watch video and i see you do use 40watt Uv ;)

mkbtank 04/25/2012 10:59 AM
