No idea. Is it alive? It looks like a big clean branch of Tonga rock. Can you get a closer pic of the polyp and corallite detail?

rogergolf66 09/03/2013 04:32 PM

Yes its alive. I will get out a better camera. This was phone cam shot

Does it have loosely space tiny hair like polyps? If it is a coral, the shape suggest it could be a fire coral, a member of the genus Millepora. Not to be confused with Acroprora millepora. in the genus Acropora. I will see if I can find a pic of ours, which is a brown colour, yours looks bleached.

Crappy phone pic but it gives you an idea.

It slimes & the tiny hair like polyps tend to catch bubbles.

it maybe that. what is yours called? growth is similar to mine.

Frick 09/05/2013 02:11 PM

Well it does have polyps and corallites. But I would initially guess some type of Porites. Where did it come from?

Got it from a local reefer getting out of the hobby. It's not doing well though :( loosing skin in random spots. Getting worse every day

Something that thick probably need really strong flow.

Frick 09/05/2013 02:19 PM

What does the empty corallite look like?

animalkingdom 09/05/2013 02:54 PM

looks like a blue digi encrusted over tonga rock to me

I think the branch is the coral. If it were another coral over Tonga then it would have small branches of it own coming off of it.

I don't know what that means

Frick 09/05/2013 05:33 PM

What does the skeleton look like up close. The detail in where the polyps sit, the corallites, can better determine what it is.

Spslvr 09/22/2013 06:44 PM

i think porites also. i have a similar one in yellow

I do not know species name, but it is a Millepora sp of some type. As others have stated yours has distinct polyps mine does not. The only thing in common is the shape of the colony. Sorry for steering you down the wrong path.
