new corals dip for red bugs
I've got some new corals that i want to dip. I have some coral rx, revive, tropic marin, marine melafix. What dip would you use? Any of the above kill red bugs?
I also have a little bit of interceptor. Should i use that? The Bayer stuff you guys use i don't think it's available in Canada :( |
Use the Interceptor.

Do you know how much Interceptor i should use? Maybe in a gallons of water?

IME there is only two things that work for red bugs.
1. Interceptor - Full tank treatment (the only way I got them out of my system) 2. Bayer Insect Killer - As preventive dip or if you only have a few frags, you can take all the frags out of your system and dip them. To answer your question, I think 1 pill treats 400 gallons. So, I broke it in 4 pieces, crushed 1/4 in into fine powder, mixed in tank water, and then put it in high flow. (I have a 90 gallon tank). IT WORKED! |
Well i don't have any red bugs in my tank. I just want to dip(before they go in a tank) some new corals i just bought.
|
Yah, well I guess interceptor can be used as a dip. I just wouldn't know how much to put to make a small dipping solution. Bayer would be your best bet if you had it up there. Good luck.

I put 1tsp of bayer for 1 gallon dip. I don't have red bugs so I think it's working.
|
It would sure be nice if i could get that Bayer stuff here but i'm pretty sure it's not allowed in Canada.

Yes, Imidacloprid is banned in Canada so you can't use bayer insect killer. The Bayer Advanced with Germ killer does not contain Imidacloprid though, so i don't know if that is available in Canada. That has worked for me as a preventative dip for red bugs, aefw's and montipora eating nudibranchs. I used a 4 ml to 1 l concentration for 15 minutes.

Awesome, i'll look for that. Thanks a lot pstank1 :)

Is the Bayer Advanced with Germ killer good to use for dipping or is there one without the germ killer?

Had to post this. Just moved some frags that I had in the sump of my 120g to put in my new 30g. Decided to use the bayer dip method for the first time. I put 16ml into 1 gallon jug of fresh saltwater. Initially I intended to leave the corals in the dip for 15 minutes but I got side tracked with something. They ended up staying in for 1 hour. I have never seen so many dead critters in the bottom of my bucket. Bristle worms, pods, mysis and some other stuff I never saw before. AMAZING! Revive is irrelevant in my book. This Bayer dip is the truth. All corals looking good.

Nice. Yup, I replaced CoralRx to Bayer as my dip. It's cheaper too!

The dips just kill the adults. The eggs will just hatch when you put the coral in tank. You have to cut the base off and super glue any dead parts because that is where the eggs will be. It's that or get a qt tank and use interceptor a week apart. For the life of me I still don't know why these things are not discussed on these forums. This should be standard reply

I thought red bugs were livebearers. No eggs. Arent you talking about the AEFW eggs?
