Nori Sheets

Do these, if left on the clip for extended periods of time, produce ammonia? I left a clip in the tank for a few days.. when I took it out.. it smelled awful. During my water testing I also noticed a .25 ammonia reading as well. It was back at 0 the next morning when I tested. Nothing is 'missing' livestock-wise.

Just wasn't sure if plant based decay emitted ammonia as well

my clip smells like that everytime i take it out of the tank. i tihnk it's just the way the nori smells after it's been in the tank for a while. i've never had any ill effect from leaving my clip in the tank with nori still in it and ive been doing it for a while

in a smaller new tank there *might* be an issue but in a larger or mature tank I wouldn't worry about it too much.

it does stink though.

I've never had to worry about leaving them in there too long, my Vlamenji tears them up as soon as they hit the water. It's ridiculous! And he eats pellet and frozen too!!

I just stopped using the clip. I just put about 1/3 of a sheet in the water and the fish do the rest.

Yes, anything organic left in the tank long enough to break down will turn to ammonia. I can't really say if that's what happend to you, but it could be.

I usually take mine out after 24 hours and replace it if anything is left just incase.

+1. With five tangs and a foxface it's gone in no time. Even when I used a clip they just ripped it off anyway. And no, I don't think leaving it in the tank that long is a big deal.
