Super Glue Clam?
 

Is it a smart idea to super glue my small clam to a rock? I don't mean using a whole tube of glue but just a dab to hold it in place. I know they have a foot that they use to hold them in place but this guy is very little and just keep falling off of the rock I put it on even though it has plenty of holes and cracks get a foot hold..

my new clams do circles in them and found a happy spot and attached foot to it, now I can place the holder anywhere.

That would not be a good idea. If it isn't attaching on its own, it probably isn't happy with the place you are trying to put it at. When clams don't like their location, they won't attach and will "hop" off the rock to try to find a different location.

What kind of clam is this?

I have a clam that completely refuses to stay where I put it, no matter where or how I try. For whatever reason it wants to be right in the center of the tank against the front glass. We are playing a game. It seems to enjoy the game, I don't.

But I'm not gluing it, because I don't want to kill it. And that is almost certainly what would happen as it tried and failed to break free.

I swapped some ricordea for 3 clams over a year ago...1 was glued to a rock, the other 2 to frag disks....they're all doing great, have grown, and stay where I put them!

You know, I picked up a shell from a dead clam that was on the beach among mountains of coral skeletons that was the perfect size for my wandering clam. It nestled right in there. Then after a day violently launched itself out. Those clam holders are just the same idea -- very cool.

As for Albano: look, I'm sure there's someone somewhere who successfully doses bleach into his or her reef. Is it a good idea or one to recommend? Definitely not.

If a clam wants to move it has a good reason for wanting to do so. Taking action that would prevent that movement will stress the clam and endanger it. I can't see any benefit to gluing a clam to a frag disc or to rubble rock.

Whatever the approach is, you want the clam to have the opportunity to let you know it doesn't like where it is, by enabling it to move if it wants to.

I agree 100% with Ostrow I would not glue it. Why put unnessery stress on a beautiful clam if you don't need to. Mine moves too all the time and I just let it move I don't even touch it and I think that really helps it find its "spot" and not stress it out. Have you tried taking it off the rock and let it sit on the sand bed maybe it just doesn't like the rock...just an idea.

And if you don't want to buy this thing, wait for it to ship, etc. you can just make your own out of Mighty Putty! :lol2:

Other than that, I got nothing.

I didn't actually recommend it (as mentioned, I received these clams ALREADY glued down...& I have NOT glued any of my other clams), BUT...based on my experience thus far, with them...I don't really see a reason to say NEVER do it!

As for YOUR bleach recommendation :eek2:...Absolutely, positively, with no qualifications ... NO!



BTW, for the record...the 2 on frag disks, are on the sand bed, and do actually 'move/reposition' themselves...but at least they stay upright

can i glue if not touching his natural leg? it means just in the back part and leave clear his leg on my maxima clam?
