Yellow Banded Pipefish Success?
Hi, so I was wondering who all has had success with the yellow multi banded pipefish?
I picked one up last week from my local aquarium shop. They had it eating live copepods and frozen cyclops in the store. I have it in my 125 gallon reef tank, eating frozen cyclops with ease. It eats the cyclops with no question, it’ll chase them down and snick them up. I’ve also offered frozen clams, frozen mysis, and angelfish diet but the bits seem to be too large for its mouth. It looks and acts as healthy as any other pipefish. Is the major hang up getting these fish to eat or what? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

When you tried frozen mysis, did you try shaving Hikari to make it smaller? That might help get it on a meatier food.

Yes I have shaved the chunks down. It just doesn’t seem interested in anything but the cyclops.
I’ve been feeding cyclops mixed with the other foods, hoping that one day it’ll take something else. |
I thought they needed constant feeding, similar to mandarins? I know there is a member here that feeds his dragonettes with bbs with a specialized feeder (a small container filled with brine shrimp, with a fine mesh stretched over the top so that the brine shrimp escape slowly throughout the day). I think you are far better off with something like that than trying to get them to eat larger/meatier foods

If you have them eating frozen cyclops, what’s the problem? There is such a variety of frozen cyclops/zooplankton available, you should be able to give them a nutritious diet.
Are they rating from a feeding station? Have tried live Copepods? |
