if it is two stonobobiops you should be fine. a pair of females will live together. but if you add a third and form a sexual pair, the third wheel dies. ime.

but here's the rub..... if you have a pair and only see one fish at the lair, do not assume that the other fish is dead. in fact, i'll assume that your other goby is a male, is living underground with the shrimp and the female is guarding the entrance to the lair.
pay attention to the lair opening. if it closes up... look for a new opening and watch it daily at lights on.. i bet your fish are breeding. check to see if the fish is fat. if she looks like she swallowed a pillow.... you've got a female. also, if you feed her, does she duck down the tunnel afterwards?
