Question Brown spots on bubble coral

I posted about this awhile ago in the Reef Discussion forum but didn't get much of a response so going to post here in hopes that I can get an answer.

This bubble coral is at the LFS I work at. Unfortunately I know that the water parameters aren't what they should be so I'm sure that those are the cause of the issue. I am more along the lines of getting information as to what the actual problem is rather than what caused it.

It seems like the coral has brown algae growing on it. I can't tell whether it is on the inside or the outside of the coral. It definitely isn't flatworms because I know what those look like.

I'm not sure if you'll be able to tell from the picture what it is. I can always take my camera to work to get a better picture. I've looked up brown jelly disease and it isn't that either.

Anybody know what it could be? The bubble coral was doing great for the first few months we had it but has slowly been on the decline over the past month or so.
