If you're buying quality membranes anyways, there isn't really a significant difference in price between different flow rates. The Dow filmtec 75 gpd membrane (BW60-1812-75) is the most popular in the hobby because it has a decent flow rate, isn't unusually expensive, and has a very good reject ratio. It's $25 on Amazon. Dow makes 100 gpd units but the reject ratio is worse, the 75 gpd is the sweet spot in the product line.
