bouncing?
A check valve is never a good solution..

If I'm understanding the problem all that is happening is that the return water is flowing backwards due to the siphon formed.. Anti-siphon holes are the solution to that or raising the return up in the tank..

A siphon will form and the water will backflow until the return piping is exposed to air thus stopping the siphon..

However if I was really specific the problem is really that your return pump/piping isn't mechanically secured to anything thus likely putting stress on the joints/back of the glass,etc...
All my piping is always clamped to the stand or wall behind the tank so that its not just hanging there..

I used these last time..
