IME these corals tend to prefer moderate lighting and a whole lot of chaotic flow. This helps to keep the coral free from detritus, algae etc and helps with the shedding process. Having a secure base also helps. Sand isn't very stable so you might want to consider gluing the base to rock structure somewhere. Once all these requirements are being met just leave the coral alone. GL.
